    MT - backcountry rifle

Looking to hunt Backcountry rifle next season. I've done a couple backcountry hunts in the Bob Marshall, and I enjoy the Bob, but the elk numbers there are dismal. Is the Absaroka huntable via a DIY backpack hunt? I would be expecting to hump it 10-12 miles in. Realistic? Thanks for any...

    Bino harness recommendation

I ended up with the AGC KISS pack after picking it up on sale, end of season last year. I have used it a few times and would recommend. Easily adjustable and not too bulky. I hang a Nikon range finder (in it's own case) on the side of it.

Pack Bag for Plain Old Packframe

I like the idea of the I like this. Did you have a method of separating the bag from the frame when you hauled out meat? Looks like you could pull the loops off of the frame, strap it back on the bottom and hang the top on the frame...if that makes any sense.

Pack Bag for Plain Old Packframe

I have an old Cabela's Alaskan Guide packframe (frame only) that I love. I would like to make it more useful by attaching a bag to it. Any suggestions on a "universal" packbag that would be best to try to attach to it. I realize I'll probably have to add some straps/buckles, etc. to the frame...

    Let’s talk cordage

+1 for the 2mm reflective guy line. I always carry a 9-foot NRS strap, too. "Isn't that heavy?" Yes, yes it is. But I always seem to use it for something.

Anyone carry their rifle in hand while hunting in the mountains?

I use trekking poles, and I will try almost any stupid-freaky, jerry-rigged mass of straps, velcro, 550 cord, rubber bungy thingys, slings, etc. to carry my rifle on my back/pack for as long as possible before I have to carry it in my hand. I am currently running the Stone Glacier attachment...
