I will second what street doctor said. 7 days in CO. The ambient hoody is the bee’s knees for what I used it to do. Temps from 30-70. I lived in Sitka core LW hoody and the ambient. It breathed really well, got dry as a bone quickly, and retained heat well when I wanted it to. We did get a...
Final Rise IMO is the way to go. I ran a game hide vest for years and I was really missing out. That being said, I think wing works is/was in the same league but it’s damn near impossible to get one now. The marsupial yoke has too much padding that works negatively with proper mount.
Just my...
Public land Minnesota. Mostly north central. Been doing it for 15~ years or so. I shoot a nova 12 because they’ve been reliable as they come for my entire life. I don’t touch fields anymore. Typically will shoot 1-4’s from steel to hevi metal. Don’t have a preference for decoys but I do like the...
Best examples of stuff I find usually makes it’s way on to those shelves. A lot of the usual stuff like fossilized wood and ammonites. I have also found some decent shells and baculite, even an opalized baculite a while ago. Couple of cool shells that lost their outershell but are completely...
I hunt 45+ days a season for waterfowl and upland and have never ran out of shells or even come close to it really.
Every time I walk into a sporting goods store I come out with 1-2 boxes of shells regardless if that’s what I am there for or not.
The other guys in my group would be...
I grew up reloading with my grandfather but it is something I haven’t invested in yet as an adult. Hard enough to hide my hunting purchases from the wife the way it is 🤣.
@2ski Too rich for me... I really have yet to be blown away by the performance of any "premium" shotshells. My curiosity has gotten the better of me for those shells a box at a time and I really just don't care about the difference enough to spend the extra $. It adds up quickly.
Thanks to everyone who shared out information. I feel pretty good about what I’ll be bringing to the elk woods this September now. Best of luck to everyone this year!
I was in this conundrum a few weeks back. I was told by a much older friend that has been hunting with doubles for 50 years that you are really rolling the dice buying a SxS under a grand. You could get a diamond or get a lemon where the barrel timings are not optimized. He recommended a...
Hello all,
I have used the search feature and didn’t quite find what I am looking for. I am curious as to what weight most people run for day hunting.
For context, I am tagging along for the ride to a busy unit for archery elk. We have connections in the immediate area in the form of a family...
I have a set for pretty much every thing I do outside but I will admit it’s not very cost efficient. Some stuff crosses over especially pants but everything else is all pretty much specialized for the pursuit. Upland, stand hunting, waterfowl, active big game and fishing.
I do a lot of bird hunting and as such I have 3 ammo boxes loaded up with HD waterfowl loads, regular waterfowl loads, and an upland box. I have probably 4-5 boxes on the shelves of extra stuff. Now when I go on a trip or running out I just grab the corresponding ammo box and have everything I...
The stoeger coach gun is a nice little grouse gun for the MN woods if you aren’t an O/U S/S purist.
I have also used an old Remington semi that my pops had cut the stock short to fit his short little arms and it works just about perfect for those quick draws in thick cover.
Scheels in Fargo has a pretty good selection of Crispi and Kenetrek. I bought my Crispis there earlier this year. The selection has improved significantly from years past.

To me those two items serve different purposes in different scenarios. The ambient hoody is going to be a part of my active/still hunting set up where as I generally use the sawtooth as an insulation piece when I am stand/sitting hunting. I kind of pieced together two kits one based...

Let me preface by saying I am not a big KUIU guy. However, I feel that I am familiar with it enough to give cross-brand comparisons.
FWIW: I am 5'11 - and usually have somewhat of an unusual fit due to my build (wide shoulders, long arms, and a comparatively narrow waist). I usually...
After spending some more time with the ambient hoody, I think it is the ideal piece I have been looking for as a mid layer. I have tried various hoodies, grid fleece, and merino. For reference, I am 5’11” ~ 200 lbs and I live in a pretty cold and windy area. I run pretty hot generally and the...
