Not sure what other peoples experience is but I bought a pair last year and really like them. They stretch nicely, seem pretty durable, and are pretty water resistant. I even crossed a river with them and was dry 15 minutes later.
I know last year I made the mistake of camping too close to their one of their feeding areas they were hitting over night. After that first night, our sign dried up.
I did my first last year in Co. We picked one and just went. If you get off the road and push back id imagine you'll start running into sign / animals wherever you are. I'm also going through the Elk101 course right now and that's super insightful / helpful.
