I live around 5600’, seems me and my hunting buddies are pretty good until about 10,500’.
After that it gets pretty hard to settle in hiking a lot until you have acclimated over a few days.
Make sure to stay hydrated it’s easy to not drink enough water especially if it’s not that warm.
I would like to find a place that works consistently to carry one, but I usually just carry a folder in my front pocket, and sheath knife in my pack. 3in Spyderco does 95% of what I need done.
Ridge vent along with soffit vents immediately changed the heat transfer of my old house. Seemed to help both summer and winter. No sure why they were not installed during construction.
550 paracord in a length long enough to hang food and camp supplies high enough to keep out of reach of varmints and enough to hang 4 quarters is about 50-75 feet from what I’ve experienced.
If I’m truck camping and not worried about weight I usually have some larger rope around as well.
I would agree with previous comments about switching to rifle asap once it opens, trying to bowhunt during the rifle season gets old quick. But I’m not a diehard bowhunter and just enjoy elk hunting any way I can.
I bite the bullet and bought the Swaro’s about 7 years ago. I think it improved my glassing like others have mentioned, by lessening eye fatigue. Now I need to upgrade my spotter!
Tracking elk is a good way to get familiar with the difference in bull tracks and habits vs cows and calves habits. They are definitely not the same most of the time.
