    Dedicated sporting clays gun

With that budget, you are really looking at entry level o/u, should be about $3k. Either a beretta 68x or a browning 725. Both are good guns and will last you your lifetime. Which one really depends on which fits you better. Brownings are straight stocked and berettas have cast off. All...

    Need Suppressor Recommendation

Imho Mag dumps in an AR is a different can than hunting with a magnum rifle. Magnum rifle you want light As it’s being carried a lot, so a Ti can for sure. Lots of good cans for this application. I personally would go for a can less than 10 oz. Problem with that can on an AR is Ti isn’t a...

Velociradar vs. Labradar LX vs. Garmin Xero

my point was it can be useful to know down range performance. Would I use it for tweaking a BC for long range shooting, no, not accurate enough. That doesn’t mean it’s not a useful tool. I have both a garmin and LR. Garmin is the go to unless I need to do development work. Just easier to...

Velociradar vs. Labradar LX vs. Garmin Xero

If the Caldwell gives bc, just take the mv and bc, then plug into a ballistic calculator. Really no difference from a lab radar where you know velocity and distance, but not BC.

    NPS going cashless

May be true, but locally many retailers now give two prices, cash or card. Locally it doesn’t look like cash is going anywhere.

Velociradar vs. Labradar LX vs. Garmin Xero

I disagree. BC matters all the time. Maybe for guys using well known BC‘s on know bullets, you can use the mfg data. I have had a different experience. Hammer for one had BC’s way off. As much as .1 too high. I have also had several bullets that were an unknown BC, so being able to...

Is the Expen$$$ive Turkey ammo worth it?

tss is just expensive. $55+ per pound of shot. That’s about $3.50 per 1 oz. It is amazing stuff, shoots same as 2 sizes larger lead, so about the same as 4 sizes larger steel. Because of that you can either use less or get more pellets. I have not used it on turkey yet, but will this year...

    Tax question?

Sorry, you might get a W2-G instead Of a 1099 depending on how they pay you. Threshold is $600. Knew a guy who ended up bankrupt because they took all the winnings and couldnt pay at tax time. Was bigger jackpot, $35k. I believe if someone has to send you a 1099 it’s due by the end of January.

    Tax question?

It’s the form that gets filed that tells the irs how much someone paid you during a year. How they track people who are not employees getting paid. Say you win $1000 at a casino, the casino will file a 1099 and send you a copy. Same if you do side work for someone who has a business. That...

    45-70 elk bullets

I took two deer with the500’s this last year and neither went more than 10 yards. one at 45 yards, left parts of deer outside the deer. Enough penetration that I am going to step down to the 400g version next year. With the 400 I can spot my shots with an 8 lb rifle. Staying subsonic the...

    45-70 elk bullets

500g maker around 1050 will get the job done. Also super quiet. Safe in almost any 45-70. Will open down to 800 fps which is almost 500 yards.

7/300 PRC - vs 7 PRC, is this the way it should have been done?

I believe they touched on this when they did the podcast on the 7 prc. Don’t remember now, but there was a reason they didn’t just make a 7/300prc.

    Suppressor wait times

Once SS has the docusign, then it becomes up to the dealer to schedule the certification call. SS is out of the picture then unless there are issues. Timing for the certification depends on how on top of it the dealer is, it can happen right away or be a delay.

    Suppressor wait times getting faster

If the local dealer doesn’t have the cans in hand, they have to be shipped from SS to the dealer with a form 3, then you can do your docusign. Could be 2-3 weeks.

    Suppressor wait times getting faster

atf is not processing trusts. I have a form 1 trust over 120 days and form 4’s longer than that. They kicked back 3 trust submissions for me in January due to not submitting fingerprints for my settler trustee. Have got 2 of the 3 resubmitted and still fighting with SS to the last one sent...

    Suppressor wait times

If you have a submission that’s not approved, you may get rejected. I had one approved in March and one is September, both 1 rp. Did a form 1 on the same trust and rejected in October. My three submissions from July were rejected in February for not having them as 2 rp. Btw a batch rejection...

    Suppressor wait times

It used to be if she was a successor trustee, it was not required. They have now changed that and you have to do full submission for both. I have 4 that I have had to resubmit because of this. I am at 8 months since original submission and one still hasn’t been able to certified for the...

    Suppressor wait times

What really BS is they say the trust might be different between submissions, as I understand it, you can not change a trust while there is an open submission. Therefore it has to be the same.

338 Win Mag - How short of a barrel? Suppressed or unsuppressed?

I don’t think there are any hard rules of how many inches of barrel to burn powder. Depends on too many other things. powder burn speed depends on pressure. Burns faster at higher pressure. blue dot is one powder where lack of pressure really slows down burn speed. Have had squibs due to...
