Bark and howl at them using your voice. That works too after a shot. Once you see them coming in turn the volume way down on the caller, once “in range” shut it down. A lot of times they will pause to look around/listen and give you a good shot.
A couple of thoughts/observations/comments on what others have written over the years, hopefully helps some people out.
My observations are similar to others. An animal that is shot/wounded tends to be much more difficult to kill (fight or flight response/adrenaline whatever it is). Single...
If you your going to pull an actual load a decent distance, diesel is better. If you are just making local trips with heavier loads or pulling your camper across the state, gas is fine (even a half ton for most ppl). We have used both. Gas trucks have never stranded us. Been stranded by multiple...
I have used the 8-21 for a long time now. I initially bought this size, because it would be the same weight as the 8" factory stabilizer that came on my bow and it also shrinks down enough to fit in my bow case (barely). Now I wouldn't want to hunt without one.
The real added benefit for...
I would definitely send your MRI in ASAP and get an opinion. I don't know about recovery time for a partial or what that surgery is like - could be relatively quick/easy? When I had mine replaced surgery was in Feb and I wasn't cleared for normal activity until August. I wasn't in colorado elk...
I have it written into a farm policy. My agent had me itemize everything that I wanted covered, so my ATV/Tractors/guns/optics/suppressors are all under the same policy. No appraisal needed, just listed replacement cost of each item. I pay around $170/year for $30K coverage in guns and optics.
175's whats the min. velocity for these to fragment/work in your experience? Same as the 77? I have a bunch of loads for a couple of rifles ready to shoot when the weather/life allows.
For the people that have hunted this unit a lot, would having separate tags for private vs. public help the crowding while increasing harvests? I have hunted other places that have this system, seemed to keep pressure down on public and the animals moving. I agree that making a gen tag wouldn't...
When I used to run a lot of live traps I would get expired/stale Doritos from a local store for free. Coons are suckers for nacho cheese flavored ones. They aren't messy and freezing wasn't an issue.
With CR123's you only get 2-3 stands out of them before they die (cold doesn't help). The 5K battery packs will last me most of the night ~8-10 hours (apex 3d makes a handle/5K battery holder made of using a sight as a scanner - works nice for how cheap it is).
You can get a dedicated scanner...
If the road is muddy or slick, just put it in 4x4. I learned at a young age if you wait until you need it you are already in trouble! It's also nice to have the control to dodge all of the people fish tailing around in 2wd.
Do you want to hunt wyoming 2, maybe 3 times in the next decade or once? That's the difference between general and LE. You also can't draw, if you don't apply!
Pro's and con's to both. If it all works out and they come right to the caller, AR is all I need. If I need to take longer shots I prefer a bolt gun. I would much rather carry around a short AR all day though.
Ha, very true! Dogs are also very effective here in nebraska, where you can access everything with a truck. A few guys run them on snowmobiles when we get bigger storms.
Innorel with a good leveling base or big ball head is the best bang for your buck I am aware of. If you are worried about height send me your current tripod height and I will measure mine maxed out.
Thanks for the info! I am currently waiting on a new bering scope to arrive. The IRAY bravo I tried out would not work for me at all. Not sure if the Rico G would solve any of the issues I experienced or not.
