I may have to give them a call. I have a 6.5-300 Ultralite that weighs in at 8.5lbs with scope but the stock weighs in at 36 ounces. If I can get a sub 25 ounce stock maybe I can get it down to about 7 3/4 lbs. McMillan Carbon Edge series are around 25 ounces

    Kimber montana stock repair

I didn’t realize they made anything like that in a rattle can. I was picturing some fancy airbrush job. I’ve painted so many stocks over the years and have never been completely satisfied. Anything from wrinkle paints to automotive trunk paint but nothing that would yield consistent results...

    Kimber montana stock repair

Real good job.....repair and paint came out very nice. Really impressed with the paint job. I’ve seen that webbing style paint on factory stocks but never on a DYI paint job. Would you mind explaining how you do the webbing?

    Kimber montana stock repair

It sounds like from what you are describing, this crack hasn’t weakened the stock very much and could probably be repaired as AK Troutbum and realunlucky have described. Or you could use a more liquid epoxy like standard Acraglas 2 part or a similar 2 part liquid epoxy that can be purchased at...

    Kimber montana stock repair

Odd place for a crack......any pictures available after the metal work is removed to see the Direction and how far it travels on the Inside. I’m sure it can be repaired. You may want to try the Acraglass liquid or something like Devcon that has a better bonding/adherence strength. Never had...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

My 160gr AB load is Fed 210M primer, 62gr RE26, Nosler Brass seated to a length of 3.330” with a velocity of around 3090 FPS. This is a hot load so if you want to try a SIMILAR load I would start at around 58gr and work up and watch for pressure signs. They fit the magazine fine but as I...

    Thoughts on a 25-06 for sheep/mountain rifle?

At one time the 25-06 was my go to cartridge for just about everything under 500lbs. A very accurate and flat shooting caliber. I’ve owned at least 6 different rifles in that caliber and still own a Rem 40X and Rem 700 Mountain Rifle. Both have taken numerous Whitetail’s and the Mountain...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

The initial pictures were from the Bergara that I test fired right out of the box without checking any bedding. When it didn’t shoot very well I decided to bed it and then found the screw issue. I fixed the stock and got it shooting fairly well. This thread is probably a little hard to follow...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

No problem with getting them to stabilize, but because of the very rounded ogive they need to be deeply seated into the case.....lots of case capacity lost

    17 WSM

I have 2 AR’s in 17WSM that I built with Franklin Armory Uppers; one carbine and one varmint. Very accurate and probably good for hunting anything up to and including groundhogs, fox and raccoon....maybe coyote. If building one you may have to use a heavier trigger spring to reliably set off...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

My COAL with the 160 AB is 3.330. I think I just got lucky with the seating depth on these....it appears the Kimber has a very short throat. I was having to seat the Hammers very deep into the case to give enough clearance for the lands. So the longer Ogive on the AB’s was a plus to get some...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

Thanks for the compliments. I have a 280 Rem as well in a Rem 700 but wanted to shed some weight. Interesting on the 140gr Accubond on Grizzly.....I guess I underestimated the ability of a 140 grain bullet to exit a broad side shot on a Grizzly. Good job! Love the AI.....giving me 7 Mag...

Tale of a Bergara Mountain Rifle/Kimber Mtn Ascent 280AI FINAL

Just thought I would add a little information to this thread regarding the Kimber Mountain Ascent in 280AI since I have finalized my load development. I had chosen several bullets that were giving me fairly good results in the Sub-MOA range and did a shoot off to check for consistency. And...

anyone still use a beam scale?

I still exclusively use my old AMT Autoscale(about 25 years old); best of both worlds. A beam scale with an auto powder measure/trickler. Have purchased and used digital scales but too much variation and uncertainty in them. I still have my original Redding beam scale from the early 70’s as well
