We'll, it's tough to say really. In my experience, most larger lakes (ie greater than 40 min across on plane) have 'everything'. Locals typically don't prioritize smb's though, so it's not really easy to gauge with local experience. It's walleye for food and northern for a fight. When I was...
I segmented my BC at 2200 1800 1500 and 1200 fps to try and true better to 1500yds;
My notes show them 0.5 mil higher than 115dtacs (@3015) at 1100y.
I just load to 2.82" oal and go. Been really good so far. No idea what the jump is though
The shape came from CISM/ Club shooting competition design development in the 70's. The competition style never really caught on in North America, but the AMU among others did head overseas to compete.
You'll see that there are more commonalities than differences in stock design in the 70s and...
I have two 284 GAP Match chambered barrels for my T3
162gr to 2900fps
175 eldx at 2830 fps
180/183 at 2800 fps
195gr eol at 2740 or 2830 fps (rl26)
Lots of downrange smash
I think the 284 case design is optimal, esp for the T3 action. The T3 really maxes out at 3.38" oal, so techincally 30-06...
Have one; they're great fit and finish
Turn time is good, comms are good, not much else to ask for.
Lumleys I think sells full 'bits kits' for the extractor ejector
I went with a 6mm Competition Match for my T3.
Fireform from 260 brass for an easy false shoulder.
Fireform load shoots .8 moa at 300yd.
3020fps with 47.x of H1000 for any 115gr flavor and groups very well.
To do it again, I'd likely just do a Dasher - that seems to be the 6mm sweet spot
I find I can hold minute of angle with a compounded 5 or 10% per 100 yards past around 600 yards.
So at 1000 yds, a 14" group is where I know my own performance limit as a driver is at the moment. If I'm more precise, that's awesome, and if I'm less, I can probably think of why.
The straight 284 isn't a slouch either...
I've been running a straight 284 to normally published 7RM speeds in long barrels and it's great.
From that experience, I don't see any huge benefit in the mag case head designs until putting a 7mm onto a super mag (15mm) case head and getting 19x's...
The 'old' T3 action works great/ identically to the X for almost everything. Only time trouble may be incurred is running a dssf or polymer feed lip aics mag. It looks like that was the reason the magazine inlet was enlarged slightly.
