Your first deer rifle?
Remington 700 vtr in .308. It has a triangle barrel, I bought 20 years ago when I was 18. Never lost a deer that I shot with that gun.

Spend the money on a thermal. It really is the way to go. I hunted for years 5 years and got one coyote. The year I purchased a thermal I bagged nine.
