Sometimes you can tweak it by using a different sight-in distance. For your load, try using yards instead of meters, with a sight-in distance of 200 yards. That should get it to match up better.
I've been doing quite a bit of field position shooting practice. I think it's paying off. I shot these lately, all at 100 yards. First is 10 rounds with Kimber 6.5cm sitting supported with sticks and pack. Second is 6 rounds with same rifle sitting supported with stick and pack. Third is 19...
Passing through some miserable country to get to sheep country, we stopped in this place for the night. It had some good grass for the horses. In the morning the tent looked pretty soggy after heavy rain, but was bone dry inside.
My new 6.5cm load. Details in pics. Velocity is abut 2595 fps with the 18" barrel. Previous load was with N555 which would shoot about 1 moa for 10 rounds. I changed because it had too much compression for my liking. I'll be using the combo for moose in September.
IMO, 1 shot will not tell you anything at all.
In my experience, this is what is ideal. You only want to test the top 5 powder charges which will be about 1 percent apart. Testing the lower charges is a waste of time, because I would never pick a charge that is that low in velocity anyway...
I have 6 Kimbers. The one I shoot the most is an Adirondack in 6.5CM with an NX8 1-8x24 in Talley Lightweights. The combo weighs 6lbs 2.2 oz. and will shoot 147 ELD-M's, N555 and Alpha brass right at about 1 moa at 100 yards for 10 shots. It's one of my training rifles that I use at various...
Depending on the angle, a shot to the neck vertebrae, spine, or hip, with a large caliber rifle loaded with solids is what I would do. That should drop it for good. Then a shot to the lungs to finish it.
This morning I listened to the FF podcast about field shooting positions. I have shot many times from sitting supported with a set of sticks for the front, but never using sticks and a pack to support the rear.
I decided to give it a try today with my Howa Mini .223 with NXS 2.5-10x42 and 73...
Does anybody have any experience with Apex Optics? The Edge 1-10x24 looks like an interesting and less expensive alternative to NF ATACR 1-8x24.
The Hunter 3-15x44 has some good features too. It might be a good option to Maven or Trijicon. I wonder how durable they are?
Is this is an accurate representation of the anatomy of a black bear? I think it is. I've shot many right where the center of the lungs are shown, and they have all gone down fast.
Only one reason really. To avoid a potential donut problem. With the saum in a Tikka long action, I should be able to seat the bullet above the neck shoulder junction. Donuts destroy precision and are a pain to deal with.
I'm building an ultralight 22 ARC on a Kimber 84M action to replace my...
NF NX8 1-8 x24 with FC-DMX reticle.
Up to now it's what I have been using on my main backcountry hunting rifle for black bear, elk, moose, goat and stone sheep. The rifle is a Kimber Hunter in .280 AI. The downside of the scope is the .2 mil per click adjustments, and the ffp.
I just switched...
I have 2 NF NX8 4-32x50. I use them on my range guns and they're great for that. For hunting rifles I use NXS 2.5-10x42 (I have 3) or NX8 1-8x24 with FC-DMX reticle.
