    Larger hydration bladders

Several misfortunes with hyrration bladders over the years led me to relying on MSR dromedary lite and Nalgene bottles, with me topping off the Nalgene bottle as necessary throughout the day. I've found that my peace of mind far outweighs any perception of inconvenience. Sent from my SCH-I545...

I recently invested in a quilt and while I don't have enough nights in it to speak with authority, the weigh savings, space savings, versatility, ability to layer clothing and a woobie, and ability to sleep more like I do at home seemed worth the effort of giving it a try. Sent from my...

I get out from time to time, but not nearly as much as I'd like to. I enjoy it quite a bit more than I had ever thought that I would.

    quilt sizing

At 6'00", 185 lbs I opted for an EE Long/Wide Revelation and couldn't be happier. Yes, I could have gone smaller, but I toss and turn and like the idea of a little more room for layering if required.

    Outdoor Research Bivy

I bought an OR Advanced Bivy years ago when they first became available and have a fair amount of time in it over the years. There are better options these days; lighter weight "full featured" bivies, bivies coupled with tarps and the latest generation of tents. Oh, and regardless of what you...

    Recommend winter wool pants

I've got several surplus Swedish military pants from the 1950s or 1960s that are well made, warm, functional and best of all, available in stores for $35 or there about. I've also had good luck with surplus US wool pants over the years, though they aren't in the same league warmth wise.

    First mule deer buck!

I finally tagged a mule deer buck! Not a particularly impressive one, but that wasn't really my goal. One trip out off the mountain if possible, however, was, and I managed it. He felt like a moose by the day's end, I tell ya! ;-) Thanks to everyone here and there over the years who have helped...

Boot Month: The Schnee's Absaroka by Erik Wallace

To date, I've stuck with the factory insoles and they've survey me well. And yes, I've got a set of greens on hand but haven't felt the need to swap then out yet.

"Hunting Big Mule Deer" book is available for purchase

Be advised, there is no detailed map of where the big mule deer are. I know.... Very disappointing. ;-) In all seriousness, Robby's book is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Patagonia Nano Puff Vest is another option. While expensive at full retail, Patagonia runs sales and their August sale is among them best.

    Seek Outside Shelter Storage

Another who just stuffs them in the provided sack. I keep telling myself to get a netted laundry bag but never seem to get around to it. And I haven't had any issues.

What sleep system do you run with a tipi?

Plastic sheeting (unknown the exact type) Ti Goat Omni Raven Bivy Exped Synmat UL 7 pad Thermarest RidgeRest SOLight (in addition to the Exped when it is cold) EMS 20 down bag Kifaru Woobie (by itself when warm - in addition to the bag when it is cold)

What's under your pad? Flourless tent.

Usually some light weight plastic sheeting that I had on hand. No idea exactly what it is. In the mud or now I've used evergreen boughs with good success.

    Schnee Boots help

And just like that, I'm here. ;-) OK, a few months later, but here I am. My Absaroka Boots have held up well over several more hiking, backpacking, and scouting trips since I wrote my review last year. A few more scrapes as can be expected, but that's to be expected. With more miles on them and...

    MLD trailstar question

I'm a bit late to this, but this seems to be the consensus: "Reports on the cuben model are mixed, to put it mildly. The stretch in sil seems like it works much better for this particular design." I've got the sil version and love it for what it is.

Seek Outside's New Divide Pack (win one!)

Thanks for the opportunity. This would fill a niche that I don't have. As to where I'd use it come fall? Idaho for certain and possibly other Rocky Mountain region states.
