So, I'd be willing to bet Kestrels or similar are a pretty snazzy one stop shop package for long range shooting. However, I'm curious what others have done to measure the ambient conditions besides just using the kestrel.
So, I bought a hunting knife set back in the day specifically because the sheath could be broken down and thrown in the dishwasher. Now I'm trying to buy a new set and it looks like sheaths are either kydex or some sort of fabric/leather. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't sheath his...
You can also put lipstick or similar on the inside of the forend. Shoot it in all the positions/situations you think are realistic and verify each time that none of the lipstick transfered to the barrel. Learned that one the hard way with archery lol.
It doesn't make contact while sitting there. It's during firing when the barrel is flexing and there is a lather load on it. I'll see if I can take a picture. It's starting to wear the cerakote on the barrel........
If you lean on the gun hard, or have it at steep angles the forend sometimes not always rubs against the barrel. It doesn't help I have a suppressor on it. In addition, I don't think most guys notice when they take it to the average range and prop it up nice. You have to be using it in real life...
If you're cutting you're arrows short, you can buy a .003 and after cutting get it close to .001 if done correctly. I have a 32" draw so I don't have that luxury and always get .001. Also, one issue I've ran into with manufacturers is weight sorting vs weight consistency. They'll sell you a...
Good luck. If you're from out of state you will be hated.
I only know one guy who hunts that area. Last year he literally pulled out his bow 3 day before the hunt and could barely hit the target at 20 yards and was asking me to help him fix it. I ended up running into him a few months later and...
IMO, match grade is more of a marketing term than anything else at this point. That being said, I still buy the "match grade" components but research what the tolerances are rather than "match grade"
Thanks for all the responses. For reference, he's in a unit that only has ~10 tags a year and is almost entirely private. So, I'll likely never get the chance to legally pull the trigger on him. However, getting within 100 yards and getting others opinions is giving me insight for the future. I...
Fellow Ruger American owners. Does anyone make a lightweight replacement for the American stock?
I'm not looking for the 3+ lb magpul stock. It's still a hunting rifle that gets carried miles so it must be light. That being said, the only thing I dislike about the factory stock is the spongy...
If you have large hands, shoot the hellcat and 365 first. I have large hands and literally can't shoot the 365 or hellcat well. The grip will often shift in my hands because it's so small. I ended up going with the m&p and haven't looked back. My friends don't think I'm as cool but I still shoot...
I literally put in for a pronghorn tag yesterday. Today while testing reloads for this fall this guy walks across my range. Maybe its a sign its finally my year to draw and harvest I know the photos are crappy but I was using my phone off hand. The best photos were when he walked up to about 100...
