Thanks for the info, I have been looking at that for some time and wondering if it was worth it or not.

    Leaving elk overnight.

Titaniuman I am with you, too many shows and videos talk about waiting till the next day and then looking for wounded animals. To me there are two things wrong with this; 1-that animal is out there in pain till it dies and 2-it is going to spoil a lot of meat depending on the temperature, where...

    No filter/treatment

Hand to mouth contamination or contaminated food are the number 1 sources of gastrointestinal illnesses that cause loose bowel movements, nausea, and vomiting. How many of you that had a case of giardia or know someone that had a case of it actually had lab work done to see what the cause of...

oatmeal for breakfast during the hunt

I might have to modify my oatmeal now that you guys have given me some ideas. Thinking my standard two packs with some powdered milk and fruit in the vacuum sealed bag should do the trick, thanks!

oatmeal for breakfast during the hunt

I normally eat two oatmeal packets in the morning and add some raisins, yes I boil the water that way I can have warm oatmeal and something hot to drink. That seems to help me get going in the morning and gives me something to work off of till lunch time.

Look forward to seeing more of these packs and hearing about your hunt. Good luck!

    Stone Glacier Packs

I understand not making the spotting scope part of the pack due to everyone wanting something different but I am a bit worried about how the optional pouch or pocket is going to be attached since there is not much on these packs to attach accessories onto.

    Charger for I-Phone

Check out Brunton, they make a variety of solar chargers and some of them have a self contained battery pack that you can charge by plugging them in prior to leaving on your hunt. I bought one several years ago for my wife but she has yet to use it so I can not tell you if it worked or not.

    Stone Glacier Packs

It does look a lot like a NICE frame and load sling. I like Mystery Ranch products and solely use a NICE 6500, but they sure could stand to go on a diet!

I love those two pouches on my Mystery Ranch pack!

    Stone Glacier Packs

You sound like you have a bit of personal experience with these packs and frames. How will the spotting scope pocket attach? Was that not built into the design in an attempt to make the pack as light as possible?

    Meat Processors Thread

I am all about taxidermist and meat processors that turn people away because the animal or meat is bad or when they already have too many on hand.

    Stone Glacier Packs

Glad you brought that up, I was starting to think I lost my mind! The packs look interesting and I am curious to see how they stack up in the next couple of years against the competition. The manufacturer looks and sounds like a dedicated backpacking hunter that is dedicated to quality...

How the heck did you manage that?

    Meat Processors Thread

Here are a few ideas if you are in Alaska. Delta Junction: "Delta meats" great everything from what I have heard and tasted. Quick turn around and reasonable prices and they will deliver to other locations like Fairbanks. Wasilla: "Pioneer Meats" in Meadow Lakes great service and products...

Fly-In - Camp Stove(s) Fuel Canister Restriction.. on a supercub?

This issue was talked about this winter on the Alaska Outdoor Forum, but just popped up again in there and now here. I guess some transporters didn't inform their clients when they scheduled their flights last winter/spring? There are a lot of options out there for liquid fuel stoves with MSR...

Anyone ever hit a deer on the long drive west to hunt?

Buy a bigger truck? Only hit one deer and that was with my F250, the deer went right under it after taking out my license plate then left a nasty smear from when it got stuck under my trailer. Hitting moose on the other I do not recommend. Tried that out when I was 19 in a 2wd F150 and it...
