    Relocating Family to Argentina

another vote for just doing it. and not (just) because i miss the wine in medoza, the steaks in patagonia (and everywhere else), or the empanadas allll day long. sure it's economy is in shambles. but the people are great. food is great. and once you get there you'll realize it stretches from...

Suppressor help for Tikka T3x Lite 6.5 Creed

a good smith can thread it whatever with a shoulder. i have a T3x hunter 243 chopped to 20" and threaded 5/8-24 by kampfeld customs with a nice shoulder and i'm more than happy. i also have an older tikka tactical that's threaded M18x1 and I bought an adapter from Hughes Precision to get that...

    7mm08 struggles

i don't spend days at a time living in the field, but i wouldn't hesitate to take my blued hunter tikkas out. nor would i hesitate to take out my savage. i just don't take out the savage anymore since i have tikkas. if it's raining or snowing there's tape on the end of the barrel. other than...

Am I stupid for wanting to cut/thread a cheap gun?

i bought a savage axis youth model in 7-08 because it had been sitting in inventory a long time and it was left handed. a $10 trigger job with springs and screws from ace hardware, a boyd's laminate stock, and it's a fun, accurate little gun. if i didn't already have other threaded rifles i...

    Form struck someone’s nerve

i too was worried the 223 was too small, so i just stuck this under the barrel as backup decent powder charge and about a dozen MKC Speedgoats stuffed in there, should have it mostly field dressed by the time the smoke clears

Build a rifle or buy a rifle? Left Handed

This is the route I took. LH Hunter 243 with 1:8 twist. Took off the nice wood stock and got a Stocky's VG on sale for $400. Might have stuck a lighter trigger spring in there just because I had a few. Sent to Kampfeld to chop to 20" and thread w a collar. SWFA 10x in a DNZ mount. Nothing overly...

    Tikka T3x muzzle threading

@Okie_Poke i shipped him just the barreled action (no trigger, no rings/mounts, no bolt etc) in a long box and had cardboard pieces securing both ends plus bubble wrap. UPS ground since that's who my business generally ships with and there's a better chance of them paying out if they lose the...

    Random question II- Windshield scraper

Build a rifle or buy a rifle? Left Handed

kinda depends on what you're hoping to do with the rifle. i'm sad tikka doesn't offer us the full assortment of rifles/calibers in left hand but i also haven't been able to justify spending the time or money to "make" a different rifle. for my hunting and shooting purposes, it just didn't make...

Tikka .243 Win or hold out for a 6CM?

i'm not disappointed at all with my 1:8 tikka 243. but i reload, mostly so i can hunt without lead. maybe if i ever burn through the barrel i'll go 6 CM....until then, i get to shoot.

New hunting rifle, .233 trainer, or upgrade current .308?

if i wanted to practice more, i'd go 223 not 6.5CM just for cost savings per round. you're not really gaining much recoil advantage practicing with a 6.5 over the 308. ammo isn't necessarily cheaper than 308. shoot the 223 enough and you can "save" enough to get a 6.5CM down the road, or...

Tell me to shut up and buy the Tikka

callate y compra la tikka in case the earlier response in english wasn't enough at least the "long" bolt pull is smooth. i guess i haven't cared enough. i pull trigger, manipulate bolt, prepare to pull trigger again pending results of previous trigger pull. and think of all the savings from...

You can go back in time…

how far back we wanna go? i'll see your "Metal" @Runwilderness and I'll raise with .... private land. really screwed up hunting for the vast majority of humans.... but definitely SxSs, the crocs of the ATV world

    Tikka T3x 30-06 - what 6 or 6.5 ?

i'd probably just sell it and buy a 6.5CM tikka. i like tinkering with things but a tikka roughtech in 6.5 CM comes threaded and can be found with a 20" barrel. why screw around? then next year upgrade the stock if swapping out the grip for the VG doesn't make it nice enough.

    Son's first rifle

i love my tikka 243. sent it off to kampfeld customs to get it chopped and threaded. not many LH options so the hunter model as all i could get my hands on. took off the wood stock, stuck it in stocky's VG. i'm not concerned with rain or snow. i can wipe it down when i'm done playing.

First time hunting, got my buck but unsure about ammo for next year...

congrats on the deer! keep doing what you're doing. and practice practice practice. my doe this year was a broadside shot, 70 yards. hit a little high in the chest. no blood trail. found her 25 yards away. chest full of blood. wouldn't have mattered what bullet. last time i truly gut shot a...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

reallllly pushing the limits with this tikka 243 and 87gr hammer absolute hunters 70 yard shot to fill the doe tag. 3000 fps impact velocity. negligible blood trail because i hit her high. took out part of a lung and all the plumbing to the heart. found her 25 yards away.

Looking for a new caliber (need recommendations)

i dont see any pointless magnums in there you should probably get a .300 win mag that you'll never want to shoot /s i'd just take one of those 6's and upgrade a stock or glass or chop and thread and get a can or two there's really no caliber/functionality you're missing except the ubiquitous...
