My girls go everywhere with me, hunting, moving cows, fishing, so going pee in the woods is nothing new. I just hope Ryan had a good filter in that thing!
That was great, loved how it focused on the tactics of hunting big deer! Really had an educational feel to it, and reminded me of alot of the buck hunters I've learned from over the years.
I also enjoyed the humorous side of it! Unfortunately, my daughter may never be the same after that...
Ever improving technology = increased harvest efficiency. Increased harvest efficiency = higher harvest percentages. Higher harvest percentages = more animals harvested on fewer tags.
State game agencies in the west where game animals are declining, are left with two options to avoid over...
Great book, read it about 5 or 6 years ago and it made me re-think alot of the views I had grown up with.
Sad how sometimes we as sportsmen know so little about these deer, and alot of what we "know" or what Robby refers to as bro science, is false.
Thanks for another great article Robby...
1-3 years doesn't sound bad, until point creep and tag reductions drive it to 4-6 years, then 6-10. If they follow through with the tag reductions the deer management plan calls for this coming year, we hunters are going to be in for a surprise down here when the draw results come out!

This.
Studies have actually shown that after a certain point, higher buck:doe ratios have a negative correlation with fawn:doe ratios. In the long run, limiting buck harvest too much might have the exact opposite effect of what we want, which is an overall increase of the deer herd.
I really like my 7mm-08's, I don't like recoil. They shoot 140-160 grain bullets well, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one for elk at reasonable ranges. That being said a 270 and a 7mm-08 are so similar in nearly every aspect but action length, it really doesn't make sense to have both.
If...
Interesting to watch this, lived in Idaho for a while 9 years ago and it reminded me of Southern Utah when I was growing up as far as hunting and other outdoor pursuits go. Tags were over the counter, you could hunt large areas, deer hunting was something we enjoyed as a family tradition every...
I don't mind people sharing general information, like Randy does. That being said, the areas I hunt have a limited number of tags, so worst case scenario draw odds get a little worse. If I hunted an area with unlimited tags, I could see how that could negatively affect things pretty dramatically.
While I like this article and this study, it has multiple flaws. 7 years isn't even one generation, and 1.5 and 2.5 year old deer haven't even had time to express genetics to determine if they should be culled or not. I would also like to know if any other hunting was taking place at the time...
