Don’t want to discourage the OP but if I was looking for a unit that was accessible for older or out of shape hunters I would probably look elsewhere.
I lived and worked that area for a couple years, it’s rough. And I wouldn’t view the lack of elevation as a positive. A select few had it...
Really enjoyed your story. Spent a lot of time in the hills and on the farm and ranch with my grandpa, still get to with my dad. Try to do the same with my own kids.
Interesting side note, Lost my sense of smell with covid and some has come back but some still hasn’t. When I get out in the...
Wow what a buck! Your excitement and love for your son is evident in your post and your expression in your pictures. Congratulations on a great experience.
I would buy one if the price was around the same or below the maven.
If it was higher at least the maven would have some competition and stay in stock long enough to get one.
Honestly if the leupold mk4hd was reliable, I wouldn’t even be commenting here
One thing I think you are getting at and it’s question I have had for a long time is, by us putting pressure on the largest antlered deer in a herd are we over time removing the most fit individuals leading to a potential negative trend in that particular characteristic?
In theory the largest...
Looks like corbland summed it up with his post. Less tags, but overall the mature management buck are definitely a smaller subset of the buck population.
I will say from what I remember the management buck tags have a much higher success rate than the cactus buck hunts. I would have no...
I live in southern Utah, talking with the biologists it’s a way to provide opportunity to draw a tag with less points and take a type of deer that otherwise would be less likely to get harvested.
That said it can’t hurt the genetics of a herd to put some pressure on the portion of the buck...
What an awesome podcast, love hunting big mule deer and listening to you two share tips and tactics was awesome.
Not going to lie though, I was a little heartsick for the other guy who had been chasing that buck for a couple years. Been in that situation before. Good on Dioni for letting him...
I am admittedly ignorant on what makes scopes hold or lose zero, but is it common for a scope to lose zero and then hold it later under similar circumstances?
In my mind it seems like the more impacts a scope took the more likely it would more easily lose zero on subsequent test. Is that line...
I had wondered about the Huron, thanks for testing. I appreciate everyone who is willing to do these, I learn a lot about the different variables affecting shooting systems reading through these threads. And am slowly becoming a more proficient shooter as time and funds allow.
Really...
Awesome to see someone test this scope, I’ve been looking at fixed 6x options and unfortunately they are becoming harder and harder to find.
I have an old leupoold m8 6x36 that my dad gave me when I purchased my first rifle, It has been very reliable. It has held zero on 2 rifles and a...
I would love to see this, the thick rough stuff I hunt doesn’t lend itself to dialing, but it does lend itself to falling down, dropping my scope etc, so it would be great to see a few more non dialing scopes tested.
Cant speak for the entire state, but southern utah has been on a pretty steep decline as far as overall deer numbers since 2017-18. This drought is hammering the deer herd down here.
I'm more impressed with each one. I dont know if most people realize how special a mule is that can run a reining pattern, and make it look as easy as a horse. But it impressed the heck outta me!
When I was required to use a 1x scope I ended up with a sightron 1x20. It was one of the only 1x scopes I could find that didn't make things look farther away than they were. It was also lightweight, and seemed to have decent eye relief. I don't know if sightron even makes a 1x scope now, but...
Dang I've got to quit watching these, makes me covet and coveting is a sin.
In all seriousness, you do such a great job with all your animals, thanks for posting these, I really enjoy watching them.
