    Rifle Proofing Issues

So at this point I have repeated these tests with both a SWFA gen II 20x (in SWFA rings) and a Maven Rs 1.2 (in NF rings). Both passed the above drop test with basically identical results as the scopes above, so I am pretty confident in the rifle setup. When I test another scope I'll link back...

77 TMK 8208 XBR load dev

So weighing in a little late here, regarding max charges for bolt guns. Until not too long ago sierras published load data was different for bolt guns and semis, showing significantly higher charges for bolt guns. I compared a pdf I have from a few years ago vs the current data they have on the...

    Rifle Proofing Issues

I bought another SWFA 10x Gen2 that arrived a couple days ago so I mounted it up in my test rifle and gave it a drop test. No suprises, passed no problem. Target below, 1st round labeled BS for bore sight. Measured with the reticle, made the appropriate adjustments and fired a 10 shot group to...

    Rifle Proofing Issues

Finally got back to this, I decided I wanted to learn how to cerakote my own stuff and that this rifle would be a good first try after a couple of small practice projects, so I delayed things a bit. Got the rifle sprayed and cured last weekend. I threw it in the barrel vise and set a torque...

    Rifle Proofing Issues

Thanks everyone. I did an abbreviated test again today while I was waiting on another rifle to cool on a much softer surface, saw the same trend although it only shifted about half as much. I'll take the advice above (I hadn't seen that yet) and fully bed the action and bottom metal and try again.

    Rifle Proofing Issues

Thanks @Formidilosus . I dont have any hopes of duplicating the thought, effort, and expense that you have put into this, but I sure appreciate the info you have learned the hard way and made public. I'm going to take a closer look at the rail to see if I did bond it or not, I think I did but...

    Rifle Proofing Issues

The scope evals have been a really eye opening experience for me, and I happen to have a scope in my possession that I haven't seen drop tested yet (Revic Accura. With that in mind I set about setting up a proofing rifle both for testing my own equipment and being able to give back a little...

New kit to test: Vortex Fury 5000 AB

I was thinking about the dog, I've used mine to play with rangefinding reticle before. The hide on a 3d target is a fantastic idea though!

New kit to test: Vortex Fury 5000 AB

I can see that, but I've never hunted telephone poles :) I guess what I'm wondering is about the rangefinders ability to get a useable range on a target like that, rather than its ability to get an exact one. Both things are important for its performance, I have a monocular rangefinder that...

New kit to test: Vortex Fury 5000 AB

Not sure if you have already completed this but I would be really curious how they handle ranging small things like coyotes in open fields where you can't bounce off a bush or something close by.

New Nock On Release - Back Strap

Anyone have anymore comments about their experience? Particularly after trying it as a trigger release rather than tension activated? As a long time hinge shooter on spots but index trigger for hunting, this release has my attention.

Lightweight knife for field dressing a deer

The last two elk I've killed i have used kind of an unconventional knife. It is called a vegetable knife, made by dexter Russell, model S151PCP. It stays sharp enough to process a whole elk using the gutless method. It isn’t a survival knife by any means but it is easy to clean, easy to touch...

Live Hunt - Bighorn Sheep Oregon

Looking for pictures of South Central Rams in preparation for my own hunt there this year I came across this thread. Up at 4 this morning, worked 14 hours and dragged my exhausted butt into bed at 10:30pm a few minutes ago and thought, one more search before I pass out. Read this story, and am...
