Can't go wrong with 30-06, 270, or 308. You can normally find ammo for all three at any hardware store in the country and all three will take any animal in north America with the right ammo.
About 15 years ago when I was in high school a friend and I were out racoon hunting in north east Nebraska. We were driving slowly down a gravel road watching the ditches for eyes while heading for a draw on his family's property that we always found coons in. Out of nowhere a black mountain...
I prefer federal black cloud 2 or 3 shot for pretty much everything. I've dropped big Canadians to small teal and if I ever miss one it's my fault not the shells.
Get in the woods a few months ahead of season and get to know the area. Find a place where you can sit and wait. Preferably a well established game trail. I like to set up between food sources, water and where they bed down. Depending on the area and natural cover don't be afraid to sit on the...
Scarry stuff. Any one that thinks everything in the woods has been documented is living in a fantasy. Apex predators servive by not being seen or leaving a trace.
I agree with this completely. When I started reloading for my rem 700 7mm rem mag I used all once shot federal brass. Usually only got 3-4 reloads before the cases would stretch to much to be resized. For white tail I love 139gr hornady set's @ 3000 fps.
I don't think you could go wrong with a 7mm rem mag. I have a Remington 700 adl that I free floated and bedded in the cheep plastic factory stock, added a timney trigger, leupold 1 piece base and a sightron s2 big sky 4-16x42. It's light weight and will do 6 in groups at 800 yards. I don't know...
I've been considering the rock island 10mm as well. I have been hunting with a taurus raging bull 454 for years but would like to have the 10mm as a back up. I also have a rock island 22tcm double stack that has been flawless since day one. Not the best 1911 trigger but better than any factory...
