I get your reasoning and am not even arguing the validity of your points, that being said it does not change the fact that as this trend had exponentially spread across the state opportunity has plummeted. Adventure is a huge component to the enjoyment of the sport, especially for the youth...
I hunt Pa and Ny primarily. I'm for lifting the ban, many people have given up the past time because of work. That being said I feel the much bigger issue is Hunter access. Something has been be done to reverse the trend of automatic posting one's land. I'm not saying a law needs to be put in...
Worst killing experience I ever had, not a big game species, was a snapping turtle. They straight up won't die for hours. Cut the head off it will still bite you. Cut the legs off after an hour without a head and it will try to scratch you like it can see your hands. I felt like a sadistic...
When I owned beagles I would see that regularly. Skinning them out and finding a pellet or two and being amazed they piled up. Nature's original snack food.
I say do what makes you happy. I happen to like handloading and enjoy getting the most out of a cartridge. So for me it wouldn't make sense to go from the Swede to the PRC , but if you dislike loading your own ammo and want performance that rhe PRC offers in factory ammo it makes sense.
To the op, the 6.8 western is a heck of a round but ammo is an issue. I would solve that by handloading. If you're going to pick one and hunt everything with it I think Loading your own ammo makes alot of sense. My main western rifle is a 284 Winchester, good luck finding that one the shelf...
300 and in deer rifle less than 6 pounds? Kimber Hunter in 6.5 creed or( my personal favorite) savage lightweight hunter in your choice of chambering. Save the other 2k for a hunt out of state and enjoy it. I own one other lightweight, Remington model 7 in 308 that has the bolt fluted and the...
Great video. I've hunted up west of Schroon lake a few years. Those that haven't hunted the Adirondacks don't appreciate how difficult it is to even see a deer let alone a buck of that quality. I have wondered for a long time why the deer density is so low, the animal density really.
I hike...
This is great advice.
I'm a chiropractor, have been for 20 years, but also have lots of friends in traditional healthcare ranging from neurosurgeons to LPN's. 80 percent of our patients ( mine and theirs) want to just deal with the current complaint and go on living their life the way they...
6.5 creed. Inside the ranges a young shooter starts from it will easily handle the game you are after. Can load lighter bullets for less recoil initially then move up. It's literally the easy button.
My first mystery ranch I bought in 19', it was a big step up from tenzing I was using. I used that set up( terraframe) for 5 years and then got a kifaru frame. That set up was a big jump up from my MR. Got my son a 23' metcalf as a graduation present and it was a big step up from my original...
Shot my one and only black bear, in Pa, with a 348 Winchester. I stupidly sold that gun. Made a shot on the bear running, through the neck , in the timber at a little over 100 yards. One of the luckiest shots I ever made in my life.
Now, as far as what I would take today? 308, 7mm-08 or...
I used mystery ranch beartooth and metcalf for a few years, it took care of my needs which is what you would be using them for quite nicely. You can get into those setups, new, for less than 400 if you wait for deals or buy last years model. I bought a used Kifaru tac lite frame and modified...
