100 percent do Merino for base layers at least. I spend the majority of my time in a light hoodie. Also merino underwear or the thin full base bottoms especially for backpacking , they do get stinky nearly as fast. Merino does rip easier so you have be careful. It does not make good outer...
They work well. Have seen two elk killed with them one last year at 40 ish yards and this year at 74 from a 70lb bow. Both dead within 100 yards or so.
Nope not one with a 140 eld m and an elk. I probably will not in my lifetime either unless by chance. What I have done is been a part or killed myself is 20 elk killed with various weapons and unless it’s a necessity to use a creedmoor and it’s your only rifle or have had shoulder surgery I...
Yes. Penetration is what kills a big bull BOTH lungs have to be punched. Because when you have a close shot on quartering to elk it will reliably break the shoulder and continue on. I would not count on a eld m to do that. Iam still not sure why everyone is so caught up with shooting elk with...
You need to two things. Switch to a 140 accubond. And keep your shots to 300 yards and under. My opinion. Elk are not deer. After you kill a few you will figure his out. Good luck this fall.
The high SD is what makes the 6.5 cartridges effective, and people shoot them accurately because of the light recoil. But I agree with others shoot the largest caliber you can effectively. Elk are not deer and you want them on the ground asap if possible.
Spending the time to really get good with diaphragm calls. Sure you can get a bull to stop when you want a shot but the situational calls and not making the wrong or bad cow/calf sound at the wrong time. I have been trying to practice in the truck as much as possible to not annoy people and...
If your happy with the vortex diamondback get a vortex razor HD spotter, the 16-48x 65mm is fine and you can find the old model under a grand if you look. Get a quality tripod, they get abused pretty good.
That is huge country, you will not get crowded with 80 tags. Should be able to find deer without anyone else on the same bucks, I hope your getting in shape, that air gets a little thin up there. Good luck on your hunt !!
Welcome fellow Tennessean, joining this forum and bought a 6.5 creedmoor…. It’s a slippery slope. Lots of info here. Before long you will be spending 4 weeks out west chasing mule deer and then she will really be upset.
I sort of split the difference. I have 2022 Gas 7.3 F250 with the Tremor pack. Did a 3 inch Carli lift/king shocks with slightly softer Deaver rear springs. Rides much better than stock and the 7.3 with the 4.30 gearing in the tremor is still perfect with 37s. Went to this from a raptor as I...
No, my buddy was 500 and something. He stuck at 140 , I told him just hang on and wait for the big crash when he is 5 people out lol. Stupid. Three hours and 300 some people through online. I hope no one has to work tonight tonight and Tomm.
Still have not seen velocity numbers on this. I love shorter barrels on rifles for most uses. I would assume we are looking at 150 fps less for the 20 and 200 ish less for the 18, maybe a bit less. The larger calibers allow more of the powder to burn before bullet exit, bigger hole. I am left...
Such a delicate balance. Couple years ago I took a new job after 15 years and lost my 6 weeks of vacation (gov job) back to three. It was double the money and I will get back to five weeks but it will take 7 more years. I have bitched about to my friends and they think I am crazy, but most do...
