    Any raptor F150 owners?

The Gen 3 payload is better than Gen 3 for sure. Look for maintenance records. The ecoboost needs clean oil for long life, 5k oil changes and below. Get under it, hard to hide of road abuse. Your only 10k away from being out of power train warranty also.

Suggestions on Caliber in Light Weight Rifle

You said number one thing you hunt is elk. Based on that 7mm prc/300wsm. How is 6.5 creed number one when he said the number one thing he will hunt is elk. I get the success that many have had with it but not my choice for number 1. At least do 6.5 prc if you go 6.5 bore for elk. But what do I...

    Elk step to YARDS

Sounds close. All I know is they are walking you have to jog to keep up. If you do not have a really good angle with the wind in your favor and quiet favorable terrain, your done.

    What's your elk schedule?

Currently on the road to NM for first season archery bull until the 13th got a late start had to work until this morning. Then onto NV for a sheep odds draw archery elk hunt sept 17-30. The tag gods were good to me this year.

    Knee Brace for Backcountry?

I have had off and on knee issues but nothing surgery serious over the years. I turned 45 this year and started wearing soft knee sleeves when doing any running or hiking with a pack. Keeps everything in place more or less. They seem to help, and yes I make a concentrated effort to NOT turn...

    Any raptor F150 owners?

You will want to upgrade the rear springs with anything over 300ish lbs steady weight in the rear. Eibach and Geiser are your answers here. Not expensive and not hard DIY, much easier than swapping leaf springs. I have about 200 lbs steady leitner rack with a rhino rack platform on top. I did...

    Any raptor F150 owners?

I have had four Raptors now, yes I have a problem. They keep getting better with each generation. The gen3 coils in the rear was a big step forward. Best description I have is truck just recovers much quicker, and no rear end chatter/spring wrap. If you can, get a Gen3 2021-newer. I have not...

What Emergencies Have You Had Before Season Start?

The only emergency two weeks out Iam dealing with is Kifaru taking two weeks now and still not shipped my bigger Hoodlum bag I ordered for a wilderness area backpack hunt in NV. Apparently this is a common issue. First world problems. I hope my recently healed up knee holds out and that is bad...

Favorite 6.5 PRC bullet for elk?

156 Berger is a great bullet. Yes I would avoid a hard quartering to shot if you could. I use the 195 in a 7mm also, amazing bullet

    Any raptor F150 owners?

I have had three of them starting in 2017, have a shelter green 2024 37 package now and I love it. If you go the Gen 2 route try to get a 2020. A lot of bugs were worked out by then. My 2020 was the most solid one I had. I only put 47k on it but it was issue free. Run good synthetic oil, change...

    Elk arrow selection

My vote would be the vap at 425 with a 125 head. Enough speed and the 125 head gets you a bit more weight in the front. 278 keeps your trajectory flat enough. Elk move so much with a few steps the proper ranging can be difficult, so you want enough speed for range errors.

Early season elk hunt dates vs full moon

The archery bull hunt drew in Nevada this year starts on Sept 17th. Almost a full moon, but who cares get out there when you can as long as you can. As others have said a light rain shower I have found gets them going more than anything if it has been dry for a few days.

    Elk arrow selection

I second a fixed blade. Most importantly you’re well practiced with what you have now. That is what matters. 30.5 draw with 430 grain arrows is plenty. I have used my older Matthews Heli-M with 425 grain arrow , Easton axis, 29.5 draw 70 lb. 100 grain Iron Will heads with the light titanium 10...
