The rifle is a pretty good first choice if you are out and about... and spray can be as well depending on the details. But both are really unwieldy in the dark in a tent. That's where the pistol comes in.
One we did at a Project Appleseed event a few years back is to divide into teams, and then each team works together to shoot a stick/slat/plank in two. Kinda fun because it you're working in a team together with other folks (but also competing). Helps include folks of different abilities...
They certainly could be.... sometimes the high country gets hit with an early-season dump.
Otherwise, as others have said, check the various resources on gates and access.

Cedar Breaks National Monument is up in the hills at 9K' or 10K' so might be a bit cooler. It's got some nice overlooks and such. On the way you'll go right past Benson Creek Waterfalls which is a nice easy hike with water.

Drove through that last night on the way back from doing some work in Longmont and there was definitely some very poor driving on display... I mean, if you have your freakin' flashers on and you're going 20 miles per hour, GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!
MI > OR > AK > VA > CT > NY > CO… Colorado has too many people for my taste. Alaska is my spiritual home, but my wife (who I met there) just couldn’t do the winters. CO is a good compromise… and beats the pants off the northeast!
In celebration, I just lit the grill to toss on some elk burgers from the kill last fall... honestly some of the best-tasting meat I've ever had.
