Not impressed by First Lite Llano

Issues with merino wool Took a First Lite Llano t-shirt out of the box. Washed it and wore it next day on a hike. After I took my pack off there were two small holes on the front of the shirt where the waistbelt is. They are standing my the warranty obviously but I'm wondering if I should've...

    Sleeping gear storage

I have a kifaru bag. Is it okay to keep it in its compression bag if it's not compressed down all the way or should I keep it out completely? Same question for sleeping pad

    Kifaru/Seek Outside 1P Tarp

Okay. The paratarp is the one I was looking at. I think it will pair up good with my Soulo mesh inner tent and the 0 degree kifaru bag in case it gets really cold. Did you get the peg and pole kit with that one?

    Kifaru/Seek Outside 1P Tarp

Going up to do some scouting at around 10k feet elevation next month. Don't think the weather will be too bad so thinking about going with my Soulo inner mesh tent and bivy. I want to run a tarp overhead in case of rain. So far looked at the Kifaru tarps and Seek outside. SO seems a little...

    Elk game bags

Kifaru bags aren't made to be used to pack out meat? How much difference does the ability to breathe make when you are packing it out?

    Elk game bags

My only concern with those would be putting 75lbs in it and it holding

    Elk game bags

I have same concern. Hopefully we get a bunch of input on this thread. I'm still new to the game and finally go drawn for a badass Elk hunt that I don't want to mess up. All I do is research but most of the best info I've got is from the hunting vets that have tried everything already

    Elk game bags

Not sure who you are talking about.. maybe you could PM me. Only bags I have right now are the TAG bags I bought off pristine ventures 24x44. Sounds like they will be plenty big enough, but those BOMB might be what I need if I de bone it. Are the kifaru meat baggies similar to the BOMB bags?

    Elk game bags

The good thing is there is a ton of options out there. My biggest concern is shooting a monster and my bags not being. If enough so I might get a couple of the large ones to be safe

    Elk game bags

Yeah I'll have to play it by ear. Where I am hunting it's supposed to be 85-90 during the day and close to freezing at night so ideally I would like to shoot something close to the later afternoon and pack it out at night. I plan on being a ways in. Has anyone used those 28x60 bags? And what are...

    Elk game bags

Preparing for an Elk hunt in September and looking for game bags. The two companies I've narrowed down to are TAG and Caribou. With the TAG bags there's a few options of 24x44 and 28x60 and the BOMB boned out meat bag kit. The Caribou has an Elk magnum pack which seems like a good option as...

    Elk call

Anyone have a good Elk call recommendation?

    Hilleberg Soulo

So I got the Soulo in today, ran through the options setting it up earlier and just wanted to share my observations. It's heavier than expected just as a few of you mentioned it would be.. That being said, I also bought the mesh inner tent and footprint. With the mesh inner tent, you have a ton...

    Water filter vs purifier

From what I understood a water filter is usually okay to use in the US. I bought a msr miniworks for my hunt in UT in September, but I see everyone mostly using purifiers now. Has anyone used the miniworks? If it works fine I was think about keeping it and using the steripen to double tap the...

    Rain gear

You basically confirmed what I have been reading lately. I'm hunting regardless of weather and at 10k feet elevation I can expect just about anything. I only get one week so I want the proper gear to get me through without being too miserable. I think I might go with Sitka

    Rain gear

I'm sure this has been discussed multiple times but there seems to be a lot more options this year. I'm looking for a solid jacket and pants for an Elk hunt. I got a few pairs of the currogate guide pants that I will be wearing. So I was thinking of going with the light rain jacket they carry...

    Backpacking axe/hammer

Kind of ironic right. No honestly I do have a ton of options already at home that I could take, just need something lightweight and compact. Thinking I might just bring a cheap bahco folding saw and use a rock to hammer in stakes to save on weight

    Hilleberg Soulo

Think after a few months of research I am going to purchase the Hilleberg Soulo for backcountry hunts. Most the time I won't need a 4-season but I have a hunt coming up in September with high probability of snow. I'm not sure if the 3-season will hold up. Has anyone used the inner mesh they...

    Backpacking axe/hammer

Looking for recommendations for a lightweight, but solid axe/hammer for chopping up wood and nailing in stakes on a backcountry Elk hunt. I have the Gerber Tomahawk and I'm not impressed. The idea is better than it actually performs
