I grew up hunting in east Texas. Hunting heavy brush and thickets for whitetails is a sit and wait proposition.
Find an established travel route, climb a tree and wait.
My first trip to Colorado was a exercise in futility!
Mule deer wander about aimlessly. I wasn't good at spotting them nor was...
Me too.
Ergo, no surgery until I just can no longer tolerate the pain.
I had a "trigger" thumb. Crazy thing would wake me up in the middle of the night. Finally, after sleepless nights, I gave up and had the thing repaired.
Same with my shoulder. It got to where I couldn't get a full night...
There is a reason. According to the surgeon who does the replacement, it's not to be taken lightly!
An elbow replacement is only good to pick up 5 to 10 pounds.
Should you fall and damage the implant, it can't be repaired! You're just SOL! Due to my loss of stability and agility, a fall could be...
My first hip replacement surgery was in May of 2006. The surgeon, at one time, he was the Chief Orthopedic Surgeon for the US Olympic team.
Last hip replacement was at the same group. Fine group of surgeons.
The halls of the clinic and hospital are lined with signed photos of Olympians and...
Maybe, but at 74, I'm no longer willing!
I'll take what's going on. I've had about all the surgery recoveries I care to experience.
I'm looking at having to replace my left elbow. It's bone-on-bone and can be very painful.
I've already had 6 orthopedic surgeries. I'm riding this elbow until...
In Oklahoma, it's illegal to shoot turkeys on the roost.
It's also illegal to hunt turkeys within 100 yards of a 🌽 corn feeder. It's illegal to hunt turkeys with a rifle in the spring. Fall shotgun season is rifle or shotgun for tom's only and last only 2 weeks.
In Texas, you still can't shoot...
No, it's hard enough getting dressed every morning without adding a brace! LOL!
I spend the first few minutes of "awake" gathering phone, glasses and loosening up joints so I can stand and walk.
My recovery would have probably been much better, but I had other lower extremity damage due to the car wreck.
Left foot fractures healed just fine.
Right calcaneus (heel) being crushed has caused balance and agility problems. In 2017, due to pain, the ankle had to be pinned. That caused even...
My first surgery was Dec 1991. It was repaired after a car wreck.
Second was May of 2005. The 1991 reconstruction gave out. Total replacement.
The last was Feb 2024. The Other hip gave up the ghost after 73 years of abuse.
'91 wasn't too bad. It just had to be repaired.
'05 replacement was such...
Just my two cents worth.
I've had a shot at one flying tom. It wasn't that I thought it illegal or immoral or even unethical. I just wasn't confident enough to pull the trigger.
On "reaping".
As I understand it, it's "illegal" on public lands.
Personally, there are WAY too many Fudd's running...
Bummer dude!
Both at the same time or "one now, one later"?
Have a friend who had both knees done at the same time!
Poor guy was in a s#¡t load of pain and a cripple for about 6 months!
@ limbhanger and MallardSX2
First off, since a gobbler can't actually "talk" to you, there is no telling "why" he quits responding. It's all a guess.
As I got more into turkey hunting, I read a LOT of articles. Some by well known (Knight & Hale) and some by not so well known!
I called a...
I hunt an area where killing your 2 spring birds was relatively "easy".
Across the road was a different county. Taking your third bird was as simple as crossing the road!
After 2019, same area and you were lucky to find a track, much less see OR hear a turkey!
I only have 3 or 4 spots I can hunt...
Finally dropped the "cheaters" and got glasses 2 years ago.
I have to pull them off shooting or using binoculars.
First glasses were not progressives.
Second pair were (are?) progressive.
When I first got progressive lenses, they didn't get dark. I was mad!
I showed the opticians. They put...
Here in OK, we had an exceptional turkey population.
The seasons opened at the best time and a spring bag limit of 3 was satisfactory.
Last bird I killed was a fall 2019 bird.
In 2019 i had shoulder surgery and a avian pox came through.
I couldn't hunt, besides, that pox REALLY decimated the...
As I understand it, some turkey "experts" claim that since the most vocal birds are called in and killed. The quieter, satellite birds seldom get shot and breed successfully.
Therefore, quieter, less vocal gobblers are becoming the norm rather than exception.
Had a neighbor buy a new truck with a big wide, chromed back bumper.
A "terd of hurkeys" would walk across his driveway everyday and the gobbler would stop and fight his reflection in bumper!
Turkeys are CRAZY!
Are they getting harder to kill?
Should we bring back the 8 gauge with a 1/2 pound...
