.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I don't use the 77 Sierra Tipped exclusively from my .223 but when I do I'm always impressed. This is the exit on a recent deer. 150 odd yards. Its the biggest exit Ive witnessed from them.

Angled exit from quartering front on shot (deer). 175 yards. Gotta be a TMK, right? Is actually a 60 grn Hammer Hunter. Not dissing the TMK 'cos they are phenomenal. But there are other choices that do the job well with a lot less meat damage.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

A different perspective. I shoot circa 70 deer a year. Most go to charity. Mostly with a .223. Ranges from close out to 400 yards. I use a variety of projectiles. Don't need to. Could just stick to 77 Sierra Tipped. Without a doubt of everything Ive used the 77 tipped have the most traumatic...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I have read every word. My point being that RiffRaff used the TSX and was thoroughly pleased with it and was clear that he preferred the TSX for deer over the Sierra Tipped and why. That was good enough for me (and for him). That there are other opinions ought not be used to devalue his...

Yet RiffRaff (and others) provided clear evidence that they work and work well?? Have you ever used them??

    DIY New Zealand import/export trophies

Great. Do your homework and find out about our hunting conditions. I don't see your friends robo-boot as being any sort of disadvantage if you choose your hunt wisely and get as fit as possible. The real NZ hunting experience is not for the faint hearted. Any fool can shoot a pampered animal...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

You are welcome. Here's 2 from last evening. 150 and 200 odd yards. The projectile was an 80 grain "Targex". These are made here in NZ as a hunting bullet using Berger jackets and perform very well. Maybe not the penetration of the 77 TMK but stunning terminal performance. Pic is of the shoulder...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

This is going back a bit in the thread but I'm just wading my way though the posts. I shot 79 Red deer and Fallow last year and the majority with the .223. Mainly 77 TMK but a few with the 52grain ELDM. Here is a pic of a low shoulder shot on a Fallow (sort of the size of whitetail doe). 52 grn...

Killing is not just about foot pounds of energy. The expanded frontal area of the projectile and the resulting wound channel and trauma counts for a lot. It makes the .30 cal very effective.

    LRX

I'm shooting the 129 LRX at 3250fps out of my 10 twist 270wsm (22" barrel, and suppressed). Have shot a few deer with them out to 450 yards and they have worked well. Their performance and wounding indicate that they are a bit softer than the TTSX. Here's the exit from an angled shoulder shot...
