I use chopper mittens, as the rag wool liner can be replaced and make it dry and warm. They also have a lot extra space to include a hand warmer when it gets really cold. That extra space allows me to get them off really fast and when I do, I have super warm hands with no loss of dexterity.
By nature, mittens are way more efficient that gloves. Gloves have way more surface area for increased rate of heat loss. Mittens allow your fingers to stay next to each other, creating a larger mass with less surface area, therefore keeping them warmer.
