Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

I can assure you there were no trails where we were on the island. Not saying they don’t exist, just saying they weren’t where we were. It was bush whacking through a devils club jungle!

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

honestly, I can only speak for myself here. It sort of was in my case. I mean locals guys hunt it because it is what they have to hunt. I doubt they are an adrenaline junkie. I had a really good idea of how demanding this hunt is and I did it anyway. The things I enjoy most in life, tend to be...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

Honestly, I was surprised that they left out of there with that load out away from base camp. We had full on spike camp gear at all times. It’s just to easy to get caught in a bad spot up there. I had my hilleberg nallo 2, Yukon rain gear, stone glacier puffy coat and pants, food and emergency...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

No sir, I haven’t done any massages. I am back in the gym. Training away again. I’ve regained most of my upper body strength. Still going easy on the knee. My latest MRI was good. I should be up and running by New years.

Holy crap, I did find the pile of wood! I didn’t see the paper plate. I will agree with you, that’s sound advice. Treacherous isn’t even the word for that. Even the hike up out of the bigger lake to the high ground is hard for people to comprehend. It’s a level of hurt you have to experience to...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

There may have been a way to add a contact. I carry the zoleo and my buddy has a garmin. I’m not knocking garmin or zoleo. We both had the coast guard added, but honestly I didn’t feel like I was so bad that I needed a 30k bill. I do have insurance, but with todays insurance…..I wasn’t really...

If you look at the picture I added with the tent you will see a zoleo hanging up on the tent. I actually have a zoleo and my buddy has a garmin mini. I agree, I prefer the zoleo bud.

Sound advice sir, but there was no left or right in this circumstance. This was a one way street all the way down. It’s hard to put this terrain into words. I’m sure there are other places just as bad, but I have never hunted them. This was a rouge boulder that the 20 plus inches of rain...

Crispi Wild Rock GTX Insulated Boots ***Updated 12/13/20***

I decided to go with the Hoffman’s. I got an extra set of the felt/wool liners. I also picked up a pair of gray wolf woolens boot blankets. 90 minutes stands predator hunting in Wyoming winter are no joke. I think I made the right choice!

Crispi Wild Rock GTX Insulated Boots ***Updated 12/13/20***

Older thread, but was hoping someone could help me out. I am looking hard at these boots for backcountry backpacking/predator hunting late season Wyoming. I have the crispi Nevada and the crispi Wyoming. The Nevada is hands down my favorite boot of all time for 3 season use. I will be doing...

Your recommendations? Insulated boots for winter hiking

I actually own a pair of Wyoming gtxII. They are indeed a great boot. However, they are not waterproof at all. They weren’t waterproof out of the gate. Maybe I just got a bad pair. I treated them with the crispi spray as soon as I bought them. I also have the crispi Nevada boot, and it is...

Your recommendations? Insulated boots for winter hiking

I am looking for a similar boot. I will be using them to predator hunt in very cold temps this winter. I will likely be hiking long distance in fairly steep terrain, and I will also be doing sits for 60-120 minutes. I am between the Hoffman’s and the schnee’s extreme 10 inch. If anyone has any...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

The next trip is now. I’m sitting outside the entrance to the big horns. I’m waiting on my buddy to meet me as we speak. I broke my arm and my hand, so I am having to put the trad bow down for a bit, and lug a dang crossbow around the mountain. As far as Alaska goes, I’ll go back and hunt there...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

If we were hunting in the lower 48 I would have absolutely hit the SOS button. This was a different situation. We were at the bottom of a canyon. SOS in this region had me linked to the coast guard. That going to be a helicopter show. They have a 500 foot drop line and basket. We were at the...
