    And usually hiking as quietly as possible, and deliberately walking upwind so they can't smell you coming, and usually in thick cover where you and the bear have poor visibility, and prime hunting hours are right after and right before dark when bears are most active... the list goes on and on

    Started chasing Wisconsin whitetails with dad and a 35mm camera at probably 10 years old, hunting at 12, first elk hunt at 31.

    This. Unless you have LOTS of vacation days, go one year with one tag, learn a unit, maybe get an elk. Go back again the next year with knowledge and experience on your side and have and even better chance of killing an elk. Free unsolicited advice. Good luck either way!
