I have had an EE down quilt starting to lose significant loft because of condensation caused by freezing/thawing temps and no liners. Now I am using a WM Alpinlite and haven’t had any problems so that’s why I am thinking of ditching the liner again.
I have a winter bag with Pertex Quantum Pro...
Has anyone been using a bivy sack with a down bag and NO liner in a single wall floorless shelter? In conditions where some condensation may occur, like September and temps hovering below and above freezing.
I have been using a Sawtooth with one liner half with a down bag, tyvek groundsheet...
That same thing applies in southern Finland - and everywhere where there is only private land. You need to either own land or have contacts, or it's not going to happen. In Finland, for public land there’s a crap ton of it especially up north and you do have a fair chance of getting tags. So I...
Also, here is a map of all state-owned moose hunting areas
Much like for all other species too, you can roughly say that southern Finland is mainly private land and pretty much all of northernmost Finland is state-owned to where any Finnish person can apply for hunting permits.
I am from Finland and just last week got my first ever tags for two moose in northern Lapland (municipality of Utsjoki ).
About 90% of moose hunting here in Finland is done by hunting clubs, with members of approx 20-50+ people. This entails a big group of guys, cars, radios, dogs like an...
What I did was I bought multiple plates from Aliexpress, they are cheap: https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005004321057841.html
No longer do I have multiple different plates with ever so slight variations in dimensions, resulting in the need to fiddle with the tensioner. As the Ali plates are...
Haha!
I recently bought the Gen 1 harness and the 1" webbing straps were very uncomfortable for me. So just today I sewed up a more comfortable harness. I have to say it turned out way better than I was expecting, feels very good as it really contours to my neck!
Will be interesting to see...
Not sure about the Kifaru buckles, but I have definitely had side release buckles that have hardened up considerably in freezing temps so not old man weak finger syndrome. :) The Stone Glacier buckles operate exactly the same for me, whether plus degrees or -10F
I have a Cumulus Teneqa 850 bag with overfill. I also have a WM Alpinlite.
I had the Cumulus totally customised to my liking. And when I rolled onto a hot stove and melted parts of the bag, Cumulus repaired it and added even more down at my request, for very little money.
I’ve slept in it at...
I used 22 gauge / 0.7mm as that was what I had laying around. I do think it was a good thickness, a good balance between rigidity and ease of working with
The funny thing is that my Kifaru Hunter frame with Argali pack + OGL + belt pouch + nalgene pouch weighs 5oz more as my SG Xcurve wit Sky Talus 6900 pack + lid + belt pouch + nalgene pouch. Same size belts.
Granted, the Argali pack is probably one of the most minimal Kifaru packs, but...
The liners in my Kifaru 8-man tipi sag too much to my taste when tied with the original tie-outs. The sagging liners sacrifice too much useable space so I made some tensioners to fix this.
It's not rocket science but I thought I'd post here in case someone else was thinking about this. This is...
I made a prototype box stove box when I was looking into a big stove for my SO 16 man tipi. I looked at videos of the SO box stove and how it was designed to be assembled.
Then I made the prototype out of sheet metal with a sheet metal brake. You could also just use a hammer and a dolly / bench...
