I had 2 and they both did it, I can't tell you more than that. Customer service or the rangefinder tech did not suggest the battery saver. I've moved on and don't have one to fiddle with, so I can't be of much help.

Set up a discrete bait station and trap them. Shooting is more fun to think about, but a trap works all day every day vs occasional shooting bouts. There are good live traps that can catch multiples and they will keep coming.
A 10 day mountain hunt is too much for most adults.
