HGs and B2s are night and day in size and handling. The views are also very different. Resolution is very close with maybe a slight edge to the B2; color saturation to the HG; ease of view - both are very good with a slight edge to the B2.
The B2 has a slight optical advantage throughout as it...
I have both the HG and SFL. While the HG is a fine binocular the SFL is a noticeable step up in refinement. Personally I really don’t like the handling of the EL but can see its merits as a tripod mounted glass.
To add to what Matt said. Zeiss Lotutec Lens Coating is exceptionally good and has certainly stood the test of time. Lotutec coated lenses would not be easy to scratch without subjecting the lens to some kind of serious abuse. But I managed to do it when I dropped my Zeiss SF on a rocky slope...
Think you’ve missed the point entirely. A number of folks posted they were basing buying decisions on what was posted here, and at least one of those folks said they backed off on buying the Conquest due to this thread. That’s kind of silly.
If folks have never had a warranty service issue...
Don’t have to imagine as I had my Zeiss SFs next to the ELs (folks sometimes forget the EL is an aging design) and find them clearly better in just about every way. Also own a set of NLs — do I prefer them to the SFs? It depends on the situation. For most handheld applications I prefer the...
While true Alphas are a better overall experience it doesn’t sound to me like you currently have the $ in hand to just go out and buy the ELs. That being the situation I personally think it a bit silly to pass up a $650 deal on a New Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42. Doubt anyone will find a better...
It’s generally not very sound judgement to make optics buying decisions based on internet threads. Many replies are not based on any actual experience and/or just parroting what was written in other threads here and across the internet.
Personally couldn’t pass up the $200 off deal on Zeiss...
Bought the Maven 1.2 8x42 as a possible replacement tor my Monarch HG. Ended up preferring the HGs - the color saturation is deeper in the HGs and while the handling/haptics were very close I slightly preferred the HG, but the build quality edge would go to the Maven.
Then I bought the 8x40...
Don’t know what version of the Conquests you’re currently running. I have the 8x32 HD, 8x32 FLs, 8x40 SFL, 10x42 SF as well as a number of other binoculars. To me the 8x32 HDs are an absolute gem — I absolutely agree with Gen Lee that they are one of the best values available in optics.
Is...
Just took my G2 outside and tried to generate globe effect. Although I panned and twisted enough to make a hilarious YouTube video I could not create any that I noticed. Conversely, globe effect really stands out to me when viewing through Swarovision or my 30-60 eyepiece on my Meopta Spotter...
Just to clarify my eye relief comments. The G2 may very well have 19.3mm of measured eye relief and that much should work well for eyeglass wearers that generally screw eyecups all the way down. However, I don’t wear glasses and the eyecups don’t extend out as far as I am used to. They seem...
Had mine for a few years now and used them a bit. Still give them a firm “thumbs up” for their quality and optics for a ~$500 glass. I haven’t found a better 10x42 for that price. Stand by my initial review comments from a few years ago. They are unexpectedly good optics for the money. A...
If using an SLC there really is no compelling reason to upgrade. The big difference is the flat field of the EL and NL and NLs wider FOV. To me the SLC is a better handling glass - my main dislike is the slow focus but interestingly that turns into an advantage for precise focus when used on a...
