Which guided, which DIY? (WY region G, AZ Kaibab, NV early rifle)

I don't know about NV or WY. On the early hunt in 12W if you wanted a solid chance at a truly large buck hiring the right guide would be worth your while. If you just want to have a nice experience in a special place and see plenty of deer you'll be fine on your own but don't expect to see the...

Do you think point creep may lead to better quality animals?

When my wife drew a coveted early rifle bull tag in a premier unit, I was amazed at how many small 6 pts hit the ground on opening day. Most of those folks waited 20 years to draw that tag. My thoughts were that it had been so long since they had hunted. they had no self control when they had...

Making Summer sausage (And Smokehouse build..kinda)

I would love to see your smokehouse build! Let me recommend that Santa delivers a chamber vacuum sealer this Christmas. If you are going to put up that much meat each year, you owe it to yourself to grab one.

    Binos on a tripod

I have used the outdoorsman stud and mount for the last 12 years as have most of my hunting partners. They make quality gear that is well tested. Buy once cry once

    .243 deer bullet choice

Like you said it really doesn't matter as they all work. When my brother lived in TX, I loaded for a handful of .243 rifles that were used on an annual youth doe/pig cull hunt at one of his co-worker's family ranch where they'd shoot a dozen or so deer and pigs each year. We used 95gr SST's...

    10x40+ Approximately $1k options

Used 10x42 Swaro SLC's come up at that price point fairly frequently. I bought mine used for $800 over 10 years ago and have served me very well. I sent them back to Swarovski a couple of years ago for a checkup and they came back like new. The Leica Trinovids are built like a brick...

    Manners vs other stocks

You might want to add the EH2 to your list to consider as well. It is an incredibly versatile design that is very comfortable to shoot from all positions while not being "chunky" at all. I've owned a lot of different stocks and it's my favorite hunting stock by far.
