Definitely a 12 if you are at all concerned about bears. Also as stated above, you can find light 2 3/4 loads for smaller birds and 3 inch loads for ducks and geese.
For a buy once, cry once gun...I'd go with a beretta 686/687 in 20 gauge. For something a little more affordable that still will get the job done every day of the week and twice on Sunday, get a Franchi instinct.
Maybe it is just some guns that have these problems or maybe a QC issue with Benelli. I run more often than I'd like to admit when upland hunting, and like I said in my previous post the click has never happened to me.
I have a Montefeltro and a Super Vinci. I keep reading about the "benelli click" that makes these guns "unusable", but I have put literally thousands of rounds through both guns and it hasn't happened to me. I can only assume it is operator error on the part of the folks having these problems.
