6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I’d like the name of that book also if you don’t mind! I’ve killed a couple but I’d like to get proficient at it.

    Best damn burger joint.

Not really an elk hunting state, but if you’re traveling on I5 in Northern California I highly recommend Yaks in Dunsmuir! Stopped there many times after hunting the Marbles and it never disappoints.

    Tipping

I tipped right at 10% for my guide, I gave the wrangler who was going to be guiding some caribou hunters this year, my tricer tripod and sent him $1000 also. It’s how these guys make their living. I guess I can see how a more expensive hunt someone could tip less than 10% but I personally felt...

    Book Recommendations?

I recently read Mountain Drifter by Zach Bowman. I listened to him on the S2H podcast and ordered right then. While not really a tactics kind of book it was a great read! I got a lot of laughs out of it. I’d recommend it.

Tripod for binos Y or N

I'd take the tripod for sure. If you can swing the weight of a spotter I would. It was nice to be able to watch sheep through my spotter, but I also like to glass and would have felt left out if I wasn't watching through mine and had to ask my guide to look through his.

    Your first centerfire rifle

Mine was a Remington 742 Woodsmaster in 30-06. I probably could have taken everything with that rifle. I never shot it past about 250 yards but it shot good and I dont think it would have been an issue at any of the animals I have taken. Wish I still had that gun.

    Mouflon Texas Heart Shot

That’s a hell of a hole it put in it. The Texas heart shot is real deadly, maybe not ideal but it does work. I killed a blacktail buck with my bow, he was at 20 yards and just before I released he spun and my arrow buried to the fletching just an inch to the right of his hole, that was the...

    Scope recommendation

Another vote for the SHV 3-10. I don’t think you can go wrong for your use case.

    Seekins PH3

I emailed Seekins on Thursday and they said rifles will start shipping middle to the end of this month.

    New to Trinity Mountains

Yeah your B tag is good for both archery and rifle seasons.

    New to Trinity Mountains

It can be like that. Like @ericmcd said, there can be 20+ trucks at a trailhead. Even off the beaten path, not popular trails have been getting hammered. I started hunting this one area probably 10 years ago. None or maybe 1 truck at the trailhead when I would get there. The last year I hunted...

Working Gear List First Sheep Hunt - thoughts?

I’d cut the shell jacket, you have a base layer, mid layer, insulation top, the shell jacket, a puffy and a rain jacket. Anything can happen but I don’t think you’d need all that. I may even cut the mid layer. I wouldn’t take 2 head lamps either. I’d wear the base layer and insulation top as...
