    Breathable wind layer for hiking

I’ve been wearing the Hill People Gear Windcheater. Great pocket layout if wearing a pack. Good durability even going through brush. Good breathability

longevity of Climashield Apex and other synthetic insulation

You know Wiggy’s makes liner jackets and coats, not just sleeping bags?

    Cold feet

Sounds like a combination of problems. The Muck boots don’t breathe so moisture builds up and your socks get damp. So your feet feel cold. I started using Wiggy’s socks in my Alpha Burly’s. They are built like a sleeping bag to insulate but wick moisture away from your feet. Below freezing I’m...

    Best Value Mid-Layer Upper Piece/Jacket?

I might have to check out the Condor. I have an old polypro top I’ve worn since the 90’s that is getting a bit thin.

    Best Value Mid-Layer Upper Piece/Jacket?

I have one of these, but with a windproof liner. It’s old school scratchy wool right there, but you’re right they are warm

any interest in a warm/light over-bootie for glassing in cold weather?

@mtwarden I have no experience with these but so far his socks and liner jacket work for me. Wiggy uses a type of Climashield but likely not Apex. He laminates it to ripstop then renamed it Lamilite https://www.wiggys.com/footwear/boots/

    Best Value Mid-Layer Upper Piece/Jacket?

I’ve been running a Wiggy’s liner jacket for the past month. Wearing it over a Capilene 1 base layer and under a HPG Windcheater I’m good to about 35F static. Hasn’t been cold enough here yet to test temps while moving, but I overheat above 45 with the above when not sitting. Excellent moisture...

    Mid-Layer Shootout Review ***Updated 2/18/23***

For you guys posting which piece you’re using, do you mind adding a little more info like what temps you’re generally wearing them in and with what other layers?

Sweater + shell vs single big jacket

I like a wicking base layer under 1-2 active insulation layers. I like Capilene for the base layer then a synthetic fleece and a lightweight vest. Wind shell over those, rain jacket as needed. Puffy over those if it’s that cold and I’m stationary

    Military PCU gear

I’ve been curious about this myself. Been wondering other than weight if there is much of a difference from dedicated hunting brands in performance.
