    Boots when things get cold

I went with a La Sportiva G2 SM mountaineering boot. Crampon compatible. No regrets so far for SAR work. Feet and toes are way too important to me, just like fingers. Last cold-hunting I did was miserable in uninsulated boots, way too big of a distraction and hassle the whole trip.

    Exo Mountain K4?

Regarding the rifle carrier: once you pull the rifle, if solo, how do you get it reattached without dropping the whole pack off your back?

    New bow?

This: In addition, having her excited about her new bow, and picking it out, and picking out the attachments, and the knowledge that it's new ... that excitement on her part is WAY more important than you just getting a new bow. The more she wants to go shoot, and is excited to shoot, the...

**** Tac vanes - avoid and save your money

I told myself I wasn't going to RCCA this stuff tonight since I'm already a day over departure for a hunt, but since work is keeping me here longer, screw it. New bottle, no markings on it, purchased a year ago. Tried an older Tac bottle, was about the same. All my old AAE CA was hard...

**** Tac vanes - avoid and save your money

Been fletching for years, thought I'd give the Driver vanes a try. Heard all the horror stories, can't be that bad, right? Tac wraps, Tac pen, Tac glue, keeping the "system" together to minimize variance, following their directions exactly. E.X.A.C.T.L.Y 100% failure on all 8 vanes of my...

    Tall Harley riders

Rode a full fairing 2000 Electraglide Classic for a few trips. Was super nice, no issues with comfort going from CA to Sturgis, riding around there, and then home (multi-day trip.) Can do 6-8 hours a day no problem, feeling good when I get there. Highway pegs help for sure. I second the...

    Post Covid Brain Fog

Had it twice - first wasn't bad, second time was worse and had the fog for over a year, along with shortness of breath. It is FINALLY starting to go away. Ran all kinds of tests, xrays, CT scans - all came back clean. Got accepted to one of Stanford's trials, but backed out since I lack trust...

Not a prepper, but… I was thinking about preparedness.

@timekiller13 you were not in California then, especially Santa Clara county. Huge loss of rights, bordering on lockdowns. Gov't mandates on what companies HAD to implement. I had to have a piece of paper in my car in case they stopped me for being on the roads. No joke. Just because you...

Rifle Build - 300prc Suggestions before it starts?

Lots already covered, but read up on 300 PRC clickers, and look to using the Alex Wheeler (AW2) reamer variant of the 300 PRC if you are going to reload. Or go 30 Sherman Magnum (which is basically 300PRC AI, and will shoot 300PRC fine as well.) And def go 22" for hunting. Cheers,  -mox

Pack weight: Does anyone actually care?

I didn't weigh or care ... until I did. You get that "one hunt" and the lightbulb goes on. Maybe you don't go full-ultra-lightweight (NEVER go full-ultra-lightweight...) but you start noticing where you can shave a bit here, a bit there, and suddenly your stamina goes up, your milage improves...

    Bad plan to get started?

Also, skip the tumbler. Brush necks with nylon brush, ignore insides, wipe down outside with a rag, hand clean pocket with nylon cleaner. Seriously. It does not need to be pretty to work great. And never a bad idea to spread it out. No hurry for any of it. Worst that hapens is that you...

    Bad plan to get started?

You don't need thousands to get started. Buy one of these: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1013017131 and a universl decapper die. Then your 308 dies. Find a used beam scale, they are cheap and accurate. Cheap electronic ones suck. Start with a beam scale, dipper, and trickler. RCBS...
