    Bitcoin

The same predictions of impending doom were made during the bull runs of 2017 and 2021. Are there new/different factors at play this time that make the current rally more likely to result in Bitcoin's collapse?

    Bitcoin

Disregarding transaction fees (which also incentivize mining and will likely constitute an increasing portion of miners' revenue as rewards decrease): when the value of bitcoin falls, marginal miners become unprofitable and quit mining it (or switch to mining something else), which causes the...

    Bitcoin

The assumption is that mining will continue because mining is necessary to add blocks to the blockchain and record new transactions. As the mining reward decreases, miners will depend more on transaction fees for revenue and less on the reward. The halving schedule is public knowledge and the...

Long Range Lead Slinging Story on Meateater Podcast

Agreed. If they were going to broadcast this story on the podcast, they should've offered some constructive criticism. As is, Steve et al come across as blithely encouraging, or at least accepting as normal, this example of poor judgment and (IMO) unethical hunting practices. The best choice...

Long Range Lead Slinging Story on Meateater Podcast

Good point. I don't judge the kid himself too harshly given his age, the size of the bull, and the fact that his dad was present. If 16 year old me had a monster animal in sight with my dad telling me to shoot, I'm sure I would've started shooting.

Long Range Lead Slinging Story on Meateater Podcast

Did anyone else cringe while listening to the kid tell his big bull story at the beginning of this week's Meateater podcast episode? I'm a hillbilly from back east who can't see 700 yards in most of the places I hunt (much less try to take a shot at that distance), so maybe I'm simply...

    Buying used with no warranty

My only brand new bow was the Browning Micro Midas my dad bought for me at age 13. Since then all my bows have been secondhand, some purchased from shops and some from individuals. A good warranty does have some value but not enough IMO to justify the extra cost. I might get burned someday...

How do you carry bow elk hunting CO? Bow Hitch worth it?

If your harness has horizontal straps that go around your ribcage under your arms, you could hang the tri-glide attachment version of the Marsupial Gear hooks from that strap. That's what I do with my older MG harness that doesn't have loops sewn onto the bottom of the bino pouch.

    Switching to Single Bevel Broadheads

Cutthroat and Iron Will would be my top two contenders. Right vs. left doesn't matter as long as the bevel direction matches the offset/helical direction so both ends of the arrow are working to spin the arrow in the same direction. Some folks are going to advise you to "clock" a bareshaft then...

    Choosing spine for rip tko

qSpine predicts 290 fps at 70#, 31", 500 gr, 334 fps IBO...that seems about right. The speeds shown in the AA screenshots above don't look realistic to me.

    Choosing spine for rip tko

Pinwheel has been having some issues lately. I think the mobile app versions are no longer available for download and maybe the desktop version too. Archer's Advantage is another popular spine calculation software.

    Choosing spine for rip tko

qSpine/OT2Go puts you closer to 250 assuming 70# draw weight.

    Bitcoin

The same way I "quantify" any other risk: subjectively based on my (imperfect) knowledge of the past/present and my perception of future possibilities. There are no truly objective risk metrics; all are subjective predictions about the unknowable future. I think the risk that Bitcoin will "go to...

    Bitcoin

I don't really care about the USD value of Bitcoin; I'm not trying to speculate on it hoping to make a quick buck. I hold it on principle because sound money is vitally important, and Bitcoin is our best hope of returning to sound money. But I'll play along anyway... IMO the biggest risk to the...
