I used my .338 on the goat I got. Glad I didn't use something smaller. As above, they are tough, and can jump off the cliff if you don't use enough gun.
I agree that the key is patience. Also routinely check a half dozen on-line suppliers, not just one or two. I have found fairly good prices on occasion, and availability, by diligently checking suppliers each morning for a few things that I have decided to search for.
I like to keep brass wel under the max length so there is no danger of it hitting the end of the chamber neck. For max of 2.015, I trim to 2.005 and watch it for creep.
I replaced my big spotter plus HD tripod that was required to stabilize it. Weight was over 8 lb combined. Now use a Kowa 553 or 554 with a light tripod at less than half the weight, but similar optical quality.
I have Hornady 175 spire points. Not trick of the week, but they have been great performers and accurate for me. I just have more than I will ever use.
