    .300wsm barrel length

A 25" barrel "Too long" for .308 caliber or 300 WSM cartridge, is purely a subjective/personal opinion. It is not like you are losing velocity because of bullet travel in the barrel. If you are happy with the handling of the rifle at its present length, leave it be. I bought a Ruger 300 WSM...

    375 ruger custom rifle options

I have one 375 Ruger with a 23.5" Lilja stainless barrel, no complaints. But, I am also happy/satisfied with the factory 20" stainless barrels. I personally would have no hesitation using a Lilja.

Hypothetical - You can only bring one firearm….

One of the two that I normally use for such. Either a 20" 375 or 416 Ruger, stainless, synthetic stock, bolt action. The scopes may vary, but within the 1-4X24 up to 1-8x24. The maintenance level is minimal, they are reliable, plenty accurate, and handy as to maneuverability.

Talley scope mount for pre-64 mod 70?

I don't have any pre-64's, so I cannot help you. Try this number for Talley (803) 854-5700. I have ordered directly from them, when I could not find certain things at retailers.

338 win mag or 375 Ruger?

I like both cartridges and have a rifle or two in each. I have used both for moose hunting and zero complaints about either. I use monolithic bullets in both, 225's in the 338 Winchester and 270's in the 375 Ruger. My shots are under 250 yards. I have used the 375 Ruger more since buying the...

Every kid wants an elephant rifle

A close encounter with the potential of life changing / life ending results can certainly have its influence. One has the tendency to reevaluate what his/her personal "enough gun" and/or "enough bullet" really is.

Cutting edge bullets on elk results

Bang flops are nice. But certainly never guaranteed. Lots of factors can influence blood on the ground or the lack of. Each animal and shot reaction is an entity. Seems there was ample internal damage, so appears the bullet certainly functioned in that respect. I am not sure that the field...

Cutting edge bullets on elk results

Most Interesting, and most unusual for a solid copper shank to disintegrate / disappear. The CEB folks returned from Africa not long ago. They used a 30-06 with the 165 grain Maximus. Their results were very different. Several pictures are posted on their website under Terminal...

Every kid wants an elephant rifle

The 250 through the 400'ish grain monolithic bullets can certainly add to the 458 Winchester and Lott types use. Some of these perform to levels considerably above what their weight class would indicate. I like my .458's, but for several years the 416 Remington and Ruger have been my...

Every kid wants an elephant rifle

I believe the more one becomes familiar with the 458 Winchester, the less goofier it becomes. If one likes or has an interest in bigger bores, the 458 Winchester can be pretty versatile with 400 grain and under bullets. I am a fan of cartridges with 8mm through .458 bores.

Not I. Absolutely nothing wrong with that concept though. If it fits your needs / wants go with it.

What's up with .338 Win Mag?

Count me as a 338 Winchester fan. I would look at used rifles. I have a few rifles in a few different cartridges and calibers, bigger and smaller. But, I consider the 338 Winchester a pretty much do it all cartridge for my uses. I hope to always maintain at least a couple of them.
