The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

Whoa. A helpful category, since this is completely static use of the gear (sitting still for hours at a time), would be “what temperature you’re able to use this gear and sit still/be warm for 4 hours”. “warmth” as a category isn’t really useful, besides to compare the garments to each other...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

I think it is. I have endless options to shoot a deer 100 yards away with a rifle, or if the wind is blowing 25mph. Having to draw a bow in cold still conditions changes everything in this context. It’s not every hunt. But it’s enough of them for me to not be willing to buy weight/bulk...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

I use a heated vest quite a bit. It does cut bulk but not weight. Which is still a win. It seems to be the ticket to cutting down a layer or thickness of one, or getting to end of a hunt in frigid conditions. Whitetail live in a half square mile home range. So I’m not risking life and limb...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

So the jacket is 3lbs - comparable to what I currently use in conjunction with the old Sitka bibs in 20* plus. You’re saying you’re able to be comfortable in 5-10* weather for several hours in the incinerator jacket? I don’t break out the stand hunter set until it’s going to be below 20 all...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

I just reference the Jx3 here as the way I use it is just a frame pack for the purposes of the conversation. But I know exactly why they don’t make it like I use it: 75%+ of his customers are obese. Obese people generally don’t hunt the way I do. It makes zero sense to make the product the...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

How much does the incinerator jacket weigh? I can’t see any of their bibs currently out being an improvement but I know a jacket could be. Problem is that jacket is 500.00, and isn’t half as light, same insulation, and packs half as big. Or maybe it does.

Bring sharpener for fixed blade or ditch it for a Havalon?

I haven’t read any replies. But I’ve taken apart probably 50 animals over the last decade with a scalpel (pick your brand and flavor of “knife” - they’re scalpels.) I carry a heavy fixed blade knife for heavy fixed blade knife tasks related to safety survival backcountry risk mitigation. It’s...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

When I know it will be below 20* all day, with wind above 10mph, I swap to this. It’s about double the thickness and weight as the previous set up. But I can sit in 5* all day in it. If you can make this weigh as much as the previous kit, and pack as small as the previous kit, and be as quiet...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

These two garments, along with a base and mid layer, get me to comfort in right around freezing temps or below (25ish) with light wind no rain. If there’s strong wind, or rain, I have a rivers west insulated rain jacket that is quiet enough for whitetail hunting in those conditions. I zip the...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

a nylon shell down puffy packs really small and light. It’s not quiet. What’s other insulation fill packs like down? What’s as light as nylon? What is quieter, and both of the things above? Again, I’m just saying there’s a technical practical limit here. And that limit has more predictive...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

Is there a lightweight, quiet, condensable for packing clothing item that weighs less than 8lbs top and bottom total thay is a single layer you could wear a base layer under, and stay warm sitting still in 10* weather for 6 hours? Does it pack into a 2000ci bag? Can you draw your bow in low...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

Sorry, forgot to also say that I’m walking stalking with all the gear to sit on the ground or in a tree for hours if that’s the way to kill the deer. Same routine every time. I dress to walk, pack to sit, and most times the only time I’m unpacking my sitting gear is to add a deer I just killed...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

What light western cold weather insulating clothing do you have that insulates as well as whatever heavy whitetail insulating clothing you’re referring to? How quiet is it? There’s a practical limit to how lightweight, and how tear resistant you can make clothing thay will keep you warm...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

clothing to sit still in sub freezing temperatures is bulky. Nothing changes that. Why does everyone want to shove bulky clothes inside of a pack? Strap them to it. You don’t need a pack big enough to shove a sleeping bag in. Just strap it to the outside. Another one that grinds my gears...

The “mobile hunting” push, vs. the lack of LW/packable whitetail clothing and equipment?

I think there’s always a fool with money, and another fool happy to separate him from it. No camp for me. I pack every animal out for two reasons: Dragging a deer is dumb. Deer carts are dumb. And, probably more importantly - disease/nature’s intent - the answer to CWD and other diseases...
