Also drive VA to CO, the plane tickets aren’t too bad when compared to the gas and hotel cost, for me it’s the rental car cost (approx $100 per day) that tips the scale to preferring to drive and the ability to bring all my gear and bring home the meat without dealing with any ridiculousness...
I’m currently running a test on mine to see how well it keeps ice. I precooled it with a couple blue ice blocks. Then 6 hours later, I loaded 12 frozen 1 gallon water jugs in it. I have kept it in my truck cap with a wool blanket and a sleeping bag over the ice chest, which is how I will use it...
Driving 26 hours solo, VA to CO. Plan to stop halfway and sleep in the back cap unless it’s too warm in which case I’ll stop for a hot shower and AC.
13 hours is my max on a drive, my back just doesn’t like anything more than that. I also always stop and get a nice hotel the night getting out...
I recently picked up a Benro S2 head for $65 on Adorama and while I haven’t hunted with it yet, it’s super smooth in the backyard and easy to lock down. I don’t have big glass to test out with it though.
No worries! I’m a whitetail guy, who used to worry about scent a lot. The more I hunt out west though, the less I worry about it here in the east. Just paying extra attention to the wind
Play the wind. That’s all the scent control you need and maybe wear merino wool base layers, so you can stand yourself after a couple days!
You’re going to sweat an ungodly amount in the mountains, there’s nothing you can apply to yourself to beat an elks nose after that.
I just bought mine, so haven’t had the opportunity to test them out yet. The only difference between the 150 Maxcold and the 165 Maxcold is that the 165 is about 2 inches taller. These are exterior measurements, would be nicer if they gave interior measurements on the sites.
