    Kids First Knife

What are your thoughts for a first knife for a kid? My son is 10 and into all things outdoors. His buddies have various folding knives but for his first knife I’m thinking about an orange handled Morakniv. He can use it fishing, hunting, hiking, and general use. I like the large handle, the...

    The great sock debate 2024

I enjoy the Buffalo Wool various socks, especially the Pro Gear Boot Socks. I have had the casual crew socks for a few years and they get softer over time and with multiple washes. https://thebuffalowoolco.com/products/bison-silk-technical-boot-socks

    300 blackout subs for deer?

I have used subs from a .300 BLK on deer and hogs and I choose to use supersonic ammo pretty much exclusively due to underwhelming performances with subs. However, you have a desire so try the Hornady 190s or the expanding bullets from Gorilla. The bow shot mentality is solid advice...

Sitka Fanatic Hoody vs. Sitka Gradient hoody (Timber)

Thanks, I am leaning towards the hood-less solid Traverse. I can wear it as a mid or outer layer.

Sitka Fanatic Hoody vs. Sitka Gradient hoody (Timber)

What is the comparable hoody to the Gradient Hoody pullover? I would like to find another or similar since they were discontinued. Solids are preferred to double for hunting and casual wear. I wear mine as a stand alone outer layer in temps down to the upper 20s and it performs great in the...

    Favorite mid layer hoodie

I’m 6’1” 195# and chest is 45”. The large fits me like an athletic cut and works good with a thin shirt underneath. My 2nd was an XL and is more roomy for winter wear with bulkier clothes (flannel shirt) and fits like a sweatshirt.

Best bino magnification range for mule deer

Congrats with the family. Enjoy, as that’s the most important. I’m just a little farther down the road than you on the road of life and totally get it. I still have my 10x40 binos from my teens and just started to let my kids use them this year.

Danner Boots still a good brand?

Are the Danner Mountain 600s and the Crispi Crossovers a good comparison? I want more support than a hiking/trail shoe that is good on rock and trails with a daypack.

Best bino magnification range for mule deer

Various 10x40 to 10x50s served me just fine for 20+ years hunting with only one bino on hunts. I would say they covered 90% of my needs, especially out to 1,200 yards +\-. I really only felt “underpowered” when looking past 1,200 but 10Xs are great for a single, do-all. Food for thought as you...

Kuiu piece you can’t hunt without?

I’ll play…. Pants- my favorite are the Kutanas until it is <45F. Top- 240 Peloton Jacket is hard to beat for multi use. Beyond those, everything else is trip/hunt/condition specific.

Direct Thread Suppressor: How Tight to Stay Tight?

Does anyone use anti-seize on their threads when direct threading?

    Kuiu Attack vs Tiburon suggestions

Attacks run the tightest of all Kuiu on me. I’m a 36 and the Attacks can be tight. I find the Tiburons and Kutanas more comfortable in fit. I like the Tiburons in >80F temps. The Kutanas are my favorite all around pant, as they fit better and I like the fabric for more brush resistance than...

    The best 15x binos

I bought Swaro 15s this past year and have enjoyed them. I got them used but couldn’t tell it by the looks, as they appear like new. I saved $600 by doing this so keep a lookout after season on forums and reputable Swaro dealers. I verified with Swarovski ahead of time they were legit ( think...

Need help with choosing new base layer

Kuiu makes good base layers and I have various versions from them. In particular, I like the 120 weight. The heavier weights work well and the zip-offs can be handy. I feel like Kuiu has too many base options and complicates it a bit but they want to generate sales for niches. Black Ovis’...

Chene vs Divebomb, rubba boot advice needed.

I use Superfeet insoles everywhere I can. They are great. My gripes with Xtratuffs: 1) the camo version shows marks and scratches way to easy. I can get over this but was the first impression. 2) the back ankle knocks for pulling the boots off broke after about 25-30 uses. 3) the sides...
