I haven’t seen anything from the other goat tack builders like rust.pack or butt head. I’ve got two of the kids saddles and they are good, had my 1 year old ober/kiko carry 15lbs of dog food 2 miles for bear baiting last spring and had him carry lunch and a jet boil during the September elk hunt...
I got into goats for the same reason as you are considering them. I broke my leg a while back and haven’t ever gotten back to 100%. They have been easy to maintain and keep in decent shape. I put a lot of miles on with me this last September. I do training jogs with them about 2-3 miles at about...
Goats will follow really well if raised from kids and fed on a bottle. I wouldn’t tie them up in the area I’m hunting since there are so many grizzlies in the area. I have heard of people doing that but I kept them around me and had my elk see them and keep feeding towards me.
I was able to bait for bears for the first time this year, I had some black bears hitting regularly until some grizzlies moved in. Black bears were hitting in may and grizzlies in June after which I pulled my barrel and stopped replenishing where I baited on the ground. Could that possibly be a...
I’m a newb to pack goats as I got my first three kids this spring. I took them out on their first hunt this year just to get them acquainted to being out in the woods and following me around while hunting. I trained them by taking them on walks around the neighborhood so they were already good...
I hunt solo in grizzly country of Idaho. I carry spray, glock 20, and a Garmin inreach. I always have a tourniquet, pressure dressing, and quick clot gauze and enough tape to turn my trekking poles into a splint if needed. I am training goats to make future pack outs quicker and easier so I can...
I'll be hunting Idaho grizzly country solo for the first time this year. I went scouting over the 4th of July and just about shot a weasel that was coming to check me out as I was watching some elk. This hunt will be like I am back patrolling in Afghanistan but I'll be limiting myself to day...
I have only applied cream to my Thor’s and did it twice in the year that I’ve had them. It has repelled water well enough but where I typically hunt its pretty dry. They only see heavy moisture at the occasional creek crossing or trudging through mud and snow.
I have the vortex viper HD 20-60x80 spotter and it has worked well for spotting rifle shots and analyzing antler out to about 700 yards. When you get passed that the quality and clarity begins to decrease rapidly, not sure how the less power and objective size would perform out at the ranges you...
