    If you don’t apply this year u will lose that point, however because u didn’t apply u will be able to buy a point in points only period at end of this year then u will have to buy another next year at time of application giving you two points going into next years draw.

    The way I crunch the numbers from last years unsuccessful applicants with one point, factor in the guys that applied this year cause they would have lost their points without applying, guys going with outfitters who can get two points and it seems to me 2 points might be lucky to be a 70%...

    Not sure exactly where you were looking to hunt but you need to look into state laws and look into the roads and trails in the units of the state. Caltopo has a great layer for that.

    I'm hoping i have no problem either cause not sure how Montana game and fish can possibly know every state or province license tag number meaning? I just down my license number and hoping if there is a issue they contact me.

    Montana game and fish has lots of info on the units. Look at the conservation tab and pick elk and you can see population reports as well as past reports from previous years. Picking a area depends lots on the type of hunting you want to do. thick and calling or open and glassing.
