Meat cools better on a meat shelf vs inside an internal frame pack. I’ve used both styles in Kifaru, SG and MR…I prefer the flexibility of the external frame in almost all hunting circumstances…
I’ve run kifaru, mystery ranch and stone glacier over the years and just purchased the SG R3 after my original SG frame completed its 50th bull elk pack out. For me, nothing is comfortable under 80+# than my stone glacier. I can’t complain about my other packs but I always go back to SG when...
I have one of the original frames and have loved it but I was not a huge fan of the 2” strap under 80#+. It could really start to bite into your hips… after packing out the 50th bull on the old frame, I just bought the R3. No weight and no critters in it yet but I think the 1” straps will be...
Not paying attention to unloaded pack weight… when you’re pushing 8# without putting a thing in it, things can get heavy quick. I too am a certified pack whore… 😉
I’ve been loving my 14’r… light, slim and I’ve done up to 5-days with the organizer lid. Also run it with 60# of sand for training. So far, I’d say it’s just what you’re looking for.
The Umpqua ZS2 Wader chest pack will attach to your PALS rig on any pack and then you can run it as a waist pack or attach it to shoulder straps as a chest rig. I ran mine for 5-days in the Wind Rivers on my 14’r. Worked great.
I’ve been setting up my 14’r w/ a guide organizer lid. So far this going to be a super solid set up for 3-5 days. Tent strapped to the side and quilt strapped underneath the bag and I have 1/2 the main compartment for food.
I used my 22 Mag from September through November for 2-5 days w/ my sleeping bag strapped to the bottom of the pack. That said, I’ve spent the better part of 2 decades buying/trying gear that allows me to go this small. It’s certainly not for everyone.
I’m doing 6-7 days out of my 22 mag so I’m not worried about the multi-day aspect but when I’m fully loaded, I can run the bladder on the frame. Just looking at the 14’r to save a few #... thanks for the info! Probably just need to get my hands on one and do some experimenting...
Looking at getting a 14’r and was wondering what you guys do for your water bladder? I know I can run it inside in the sleeve but if I do multi-day trips, that won’t work. Is the lid big enough to run a square-ish 2-liter bladder? Has anyone run the hydration pocket on this pack? Thanks for...
