I struck out on NR Unit 34 deer and elk. That wasn't the news I was hoping for today, but I have family in Unit 34, so I might tag along on a hunt or two if they get drawn.
All the Outdoor Research gear I have tried has been extremely high quality. If your father has the need for heated gloves and you have the coin to buy them, I wouldn't doubt that they are worth the money. If you have a problem with them, OR will have you covered.
I hunted the South Slope and North Slope in 2016. The North Slope is easy terrain with a lot of roads and a lot of hunting pressure. The northern end of the South Slope is rough terrain with few roads and a lot lower pressure compared to the North Slope, but there are fewer elk. I was in the...
I ran your specs through Archer’s Advantage and with your current arrows, you will be very slightly underspined with you plan. In my experience, software is overly stiff on optimum spine, so I think you will be fine. You can also use your current set up as is.

I always take a coffee thermos on late season hunts. When the cold really starts getting to you, a few sips of refreshing hot coffee can keep you out longer. It adds warmth to your body and soul. I don’t worry about the scent if it means the difference between hunting longer or calling it a...
First Lite Tundra balaclava. It kept me out longer on stand in freezing temps with wind and snow for hours longer that I thought I could muster. It is a great piece of kit for hunting the late season.

That’s impressive. I love my 75 lb Carbon Defiant Turbo, an 80 lb Ultra with Turbo cams would be a real screamer. Have you thought about switching out cams?

Agreed. The hand warmer pockets are a pain in the rear to use. I have to fight the elastic to get my hands in. They are very warm, but I use a hand muff instead.

I'm interested in new glass. I saw Randy Newberg testing a set of Leopold laser range finding binos on one of his day to day hunts on YouTube. I tried to hold off upgrading my binos and rangefinder until they came out, but I missed the one and only buck I saw this year when my old Leupold RX2...
I typically carry both a 2L bladder and 1L Nalgene in my pack. I use flavor and supplements in the Nalgene and plain water in the bladder. When I work up a sweat or stop to take a break, it is nice to gulp down a tasty sweet beverage rather than sucking on a tube. The bladder is for staying...
