Winchester Model 70 Featherweight Stainless 300 WSM

That is a great price. Newer models have a threaded muzzle, so you are saving $300 because of that. You don't need a muzzle break on a 300 WSM.

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Were you on a boat large enough to sleep on, cook, and get warm?

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Ww Were you on the west side of the island? What was the problem, the 200" of rain per year and always being wet?

    Lapping "High end" scope rings?

That is what I do, bed the rail to the action using blue locktite. When that cures, tighten the mounting screws to the final torque. I made sure no locktite was attached to the screws during the bedding, but for the final torque I added locktite.

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Vancouver Island has the largest black bears in the world. There are some very remote areas, particularly on the north coast facing the ocean.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Once I was on a two week backpack trip on the John Muir Trail, in the California Sierras. This is in National Forest. At night we put any food in our packs, and pulled them way up in the air on a rope of a branch. Occasionally we would see bears, but there was no food for them so they left us...

    Lapping "High end" scope rings?

I watched a video years ago when the M700 action at the factory was finished off on top with using a fixed belt sander. I believe the lower 700 actions were sanded off with a minimum amount of time and care, but the higher end rifles Remington spent more time and the alignment for scope rings...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I went on Google earth, and did a screen shot of the Palenque N.P. area I spoke about. I believe the large building area to the left was still covered by jungle. The circled area shows where I remember the parking lot to be, and the pink X shows where we were standing and looking at the time...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Many years ago, when Mexico was safer than the USA, I hitch hiked and back packed from Cali to Cozumel and back. Took 4 1/2 months, learned Spanish along the way. Stayed in a hotel one night/week to clean up. The other days camped out. Usually I traveled by myself, but sometimes I would go...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I was hiking in NorCal once, and came across a burn area. Mostly small trees, and appeared to have burned and not regrown for some reason. Kept going, and in the middle of it found parts of downed aircraft. Digging through what little wreckage there was, mostly small parts plus a large...

Lucky to be alive! Alaska Elk

I went through something similar when I was still a teenager. We were free climbing, and the guy next to me fell and died. One of those things that if survive, you learn important life lessons. Glad you both made it out.

    Your Elk Hunting Rifle

Original/stock M70 Extreme Weather in 325WSM. 160gn TTSX, 3,200 fps at the barrel and 2,300 fps 400 yards out. Also have a Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger, in a McMillan stock. However it is more of a bear gun.

.375hh scope, 30mm, long enough to mount without a rail?

If you will be hunting in Alaska, I would think a larger objective would be helpful. Lots of cloudy weather up there.
