I have SFL's and I really like them, more than the EL's I had before them however the EL does handle direct sunlight better, it just magically makes glare non existent. The ergonomics and focus on the SFL makes them the ideal carry bino IMO.
I've had both at the same time and the 80 is noticeably better when light is a factor. Enough so that even though I have days where I prefer to travel as light as possible I still chose the 80, I eventually sold off the 65.
We are also electing to bring our own camping gear so I will already have a fair amount of cargo to ship.
In the end it may not make sense but I'm certainly vetting the option.
I agree there's voodoo in making a crate ahead of time, hoping to simplify my return home.
I figured there's a few people on this forum that probably build several a year and might be able to shed some light on my dimensions in general. I have considered a very worst case scenario of cutting one...
If you were going to build a crate to ship a Moose rack (European style, horns attached) how big would you build based on a generic under 60" bull that would fit 90% of what gets harvested?? Would 30x35x64 be big enough?
I gave up a pair of 10x50 EL's due to the size and weight and went to SFL 10's.
My biggest complaint is they don't cut sun glare nearly as well as the Swaro.
Marginally better than my Razors for glare but the fast focus on the Zeiss is stellar.
Just my two cents but I had the 80 and the 65 at the same time and the 80 is way brighter and worth the size and weight penalty. I also had both eyepieces and the 25-50 is also worth waiting for. Good luck with your purchase.
