I’m back. On my last blog post Huntin’ the Pockets- Day 5, I told you I was now headed to the high country to hunt bucks. Bucks in the West inhabit at least three habitat zones- the desert, the foothills, and the high country (there are several sub-classes of habitats in each of those zones). With this hunt, you’ll see how I hunt the high country zone.
Some of the best high country in the West is located miles and thousands of vertical feet from the roads. This often means you lose two hunting days— one for the pack-in and one for the pack-out— so chose your areas carefully as a guy only has so much time off work and you don’t want to lose too many hunting days.
If I can work it out logistically, I try to hunt the same day as the pack-in. Big bucks move right before dark, so if I can be in prime country for at least the last hour of the day, I don’t have to lose a full day of hunting. Here’s a quick video of my first day in the high country:
Make sure you “Subscribe to blog, upper right under Fitness/Other” so you don’t miss a day of this hunt.
