I want to give credit where it's due, some of you might remember I had the first (all grey) mountain star tent and it leaked badly.

I returned that tent and Kuiu sent me the 2015 version, I've now had this tent in some absolutely foul weather including 2 nights of 120kph winds with up to 50mm of rain. The tent is rock solid and has not leaked a drop.

Some will say it's a rip off of a big sky revolution, no more than a big sky is a rip off of a hubba hubba. After the first leaky tent I seriously looked at getting a big sky instead, but the pole design on the mountain star is far superior and I'm glad I stuck with it.

JP would you have any reservations using yours on a tahr hunt?

I'm planning a NZ tahr hunt in 2017
I haven't worked out if it will be May or October yet.

I've used it on a few Tahr hunts and this year in Fiordland for Wapiti.
I have not had it the snow. Early season no issues. I would say it will handle a little snow but June or July you could get caught out

it is a promising looking tent, have been seeing a lot of positive reviews on the new version.

Glad you didn't die from hypothermia on that mountain and that Jason graciously replaced your tent ! I hadn't heard there was a recall...

I had the pleasure of 5 days in a wet sleeping bag on the west coast. Rained for 8 days solid. Managed to keep dry for a bit but was not that fun haha

Can it be called a 3.5 season tent? Could it handle rain, and a minor freak snow, or no snow at all? Thoughts?

The first generation I would call a zero season tent haha.
The newer version I would say is 3 season or better.
I just remembered I did in fact have one on a later season goat hunt in North BC and we had 2 days of light wet snow fall and it was fine. Just needed to tap the sides to keep it from building up.
The size of the tent and ventilation is very good and set up is simple and fast

I don't see myself hunting in snow. And don't want to haul around the extra 2 lbs of weight of a 4 season tent. I'd like to buy one 2 person tent for the time being.
